UTA seeks a Software Engineer responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining our backend applications. This involves analyzing areas for improvement and identifying opportunities to automate, secure, and optimize our environment. You will play a key role in fostering a high-quality engineering culture that values rapid iteration, collaboration, and best practices. The position offers remote work flexibility.

As a Software Engineer, you will craft, build, and sustain high-performance APIs, collaborating closely with engineers and design teams to ensure applications are optimized for speed, scalability, and usability. Experience with cloud services, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), GitHub Actions, Terraform, Kubernetes, Microservices, and API Management Systems is advantageous.

The salary range for this role is $170,000 to $190,000, commensurate with experience and skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services and platforms using Node.js, ensuring high-quality, efficient, and scalable code.
• Develop scalable platform solutions supporting dynamic APIs, secure authentication, and service orchestration.
• Implement API management practices, including gateway design, documentation, versioning, monitoring, and security.
• Design data models with MongoDB and Postgres, ensuring optimal storage and retrieval.
• Build and maintain GraphQL and REST APIs for seamless communication across systems.
• Optimize search indexes like Algolia or ElasticSearch for performance and accuracy.

Additional Responsibilities

• Write and maintain unit, integration, and performance tests using frameworks like Vitest or Mocha.
• Monitor system health, troubleshoot issues, and improve uptime and performance.
• Work with API Management Systems to ensure secure and scalable API integrations.
• Implement security measures such as token authentication, rate limiting, and traffic monitoring.
• Collaborate with front-end and UX/UI teams to deliver responsive applications.
• Use GitHub Actions for CI/CD workflows and partner with DevOps for IaC using Terraform and Kubernetes.
• Stay updated on backend development trends and incorporate new tools and practices.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• 7+ years of backend development experience.
• Proficiency in building and managing APIs with Typescript (REST and GraphQL).
• Experience with MongoDB and Postgres databases.
• Deep understanding of backend best practices, including experience with MongoDB, Postgres, and ElasticSearch.
• Experience with serverless functions, messaging systems like Kafka or RabbitMQ is a plus.
• Familiarity with deployment, CI/CD pipelines, Git, and feature branch workflows.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
• Preferred: Experience with cloud services, Microservices, Kubernetes, IaC, GitHub Actions, Terraform, and API Management Systems.
