Amentum is seeking a Software Engineer to join the DevOps team in Hanover, MD, delivering cyber training solutions across locations. The role covers full software lifecycle, collaboration with instructors, developers, and sysadmins, and working across diverse applications and infra.

The team values broad technical expertise and cross-functional delivery. Minimum education includes a Master/Bachelor/Associate or equivalent, with strong experience in Ruby, Java, C++, and web UI technologies.

Qualifications

The team develops, deploys, and supports mission-focused cyber training solutions used across multiple locations.

Team members work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment supporting the entire software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, software development, testing, deployment, infrastructure management, and operational support. Engineers work closely with instructors, developers, and system administrators to deliver reliable, realistic training capabilities.

Unlike many software organizations where engineers are assigned to a single product or technology stack, members of the DevOps team contribute across a diverse portfolio of applications, services, and supporting infrastructure. This provides opportunities to build broad technical expertise while collaborating with teammates to deliver integrated solutions throughout the software development lifecycle.

Work Schedule:

The coursesbeing supported are active from 0700-1800 M-F. Contract core hours are 1000-1400. The DevOps team is flexible on arrival and departure time however there are occasions where one or more DevOps team members will be needed to support testing and maintenance before or after course hours.

Essential Responsibilities:

The Software Engineer will contribute to the design, development, deployment, and maintenance of software applications and supporting infrastructure. Team members are expected to broaden their experience across multiple areas of the software development lifecycle while developing technical expertise in one or more areas.

Responsibilities include:

• Design, develop, troubleshoot, and maintain software applications supporting cyber training environments.
• Analyze requirements and develop technical solutions that support mission and customer needs.
• Develop user interfaces, backend services, APIs, automation tools, and data processing solutions.
• Contribute to the implementation and maintenance of software development pipelines.
• Configure, deploy, and maintain applications in virtualized and containerized environments.
• Develop and maintain databases, dataflows, scripts, and automation solutions.
• Support the creation and maintenance of realistic cyber training environments and simulations.
• Perform software testing, debugging, validation, and analysis of results.
• Evaluate new technologies and contribute recommendations for improving applications and development processes.
• Document software designs, configurations, processes, and operational procedures.
• Collaborate with instructors, developers, system administrators, and other technical teams to improve training capabilities.
• Identify opportunities to improve existing applications, workflows, and user experiences.

Security Clearance Required:

TS/SCI with Poly

Minimum Education:

Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field and two (2) years of relevant experience;

OR

Bachelor's degree in the same fields and five (5) years of relevant experience;

OR Associate's degree (or 18 semester hours of military coursework/training in a computer-related field) and seven (7) years of relevant experience;

OR High school diploma/GED and nine (9) years of relevant experience.

Minimum Years of Experience:

Experience developing using one or more of the following languages: Ruby, Ruby on Rails, Java, or C++.

Requires demonstrated proficiency in web UI interface design using a variety of languages such as HTML, CSS, AJAX, JSON/XML, JavaScript/TypeScript, and JQuery or similar.

Experience using SQL/NoSQL and relational databases (MySQL/MongoDB preferred) required.

A working knowledge of both Windows and Linux platform is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

The DevOps teampositions require fully cleared individualswith an extensive range of experience and abilitiesto developapplications for Computer Network Operations. As a team weimplement and supportall stages of the Software Development Lifecycle and recognize the benefit of having team members that specialize in specific stages of that cycle.As a team member you should be able to fit into at least one of the following specializations(UI/UX, Backend Services, DevOps/Integration)with a desire or ability toexpandintoat least one other specialization.

UI/UX specialist:Focus ondesigning andcreating the student and instructor facing interfaces andneed the following skills at a minimum:

• -develop aesthetically pleasing and user-friendly front endsusing frameworks like react, angular,andsvelte
• -develop and implement test bedsand usetest suites such as jUnit or PyTest for robust testing practices
• - interface with API endpoints, databases, and other dataflow solutions
• -perform trend analysis of studentactivitiesand identifypotential improvements to course delivery systems and interfaces.

Backend Service specialist:Focus on creatingdataflow componentsto collect, parse, and provide information to other services or for exfiltration and deliverables. You will need the following skills at a minimum:

• - develop services, APIs and dataflow solutions using various languages and frameworks such as PythonFlask, JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.JS, Express/Hono, PHP, Ruby on Rails, and Go.
• - design and implement database schemas across multiple systems with and without replication using SQL and NoSQL solutions
• - developscripts,scrapers and parsers in support of automated grading and course delivery
• -develop and implement test bedsand usetest suites such as jUnit or PyTest for robust testing practices
• -administer, configure, and maintaincommon Unix/Linuxand Windows Servervariants
• -createand configurevirtual hosts and networks using VMware in support of developing real-world scenarios

DevOps/Integration specialist:Focus on the management and maintenance of the virtualization and deployment solutions used to ensure rapid validated deployments of services and applications. You will need the following skills at a minimum:

• -design and implementflexible and robust CI/CD pipelinesto enhance the software development lifecycleusing solutions such as GitLab
• - plan, implement, and maintain scalable application and service deployments in an on-premises Kubernetes clusters using tools like helm, fleet, git, rancher, lens,ork9s
• - develop and deploy applications, services, and systems within virtualized environments, preferably vSphere, Docker, and Kubernetes
• - support API and dataflow systems
• - perform HTTPS certificate management
• - design service, application, and network architecturesto support deployment and data flow
• -develop and implement test bedsand usetest suites such as jUnit or PyTest for robust testing practices

All team members regardless of their specialization will be expected to:

• - demonstrate the ability to parse and understand existing code bases, contributing to the continued development of class management tools
• -perform trend analysis of studentactivitiesand identifypotential improvements to course delivery systems and interfaces
• -develop software solutionsusinglanguages such as Python,Shell scriptingor Node.js
• -develop and deploy applications, services, and systems within virtualized environmentssuch asvSphereandDocker
• -create and manage applications using industry standard package managers(apt, yum,pip,npm,nuget,etc…)
• - show proficiency inusingsource code management systems, with a focus on Git
• - apply valid software development pipelines to develop, test, document and deploy projects
• - use and receive tasking through project management systems such as Jiraor GitLab
• - provide comprehensive documentation and support for various levels of customers
• - be a self-motivated individual that can think outside the boxto stay ahead of issues that could prevent the successful delivery of course material and activities while supporting the team as a whole
• - learn about the other specializations to better work with and support other development efforts
• - providerecommendations for technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems
• -lead development activities, showcasing the ability to guide and manage software engineering projects
• - mentor juniorteammembers
