Job summary

Zachary Piper Solutions seeks a Software Engineer to support a US Navy IT Services contract based in San Diego, CA. This on-site role focuses on secure software development across unclassified and classified environments, delivering modern solutions and integrating systems within an Agile/DevSecOps framework.

The ideal candidate has a current Secret clearance, DoD 8570 IAT Level II cert, a IT-related Bachelor's, and hands-on experience with Python and JavaScript, APIs, and secure coding

Qualifications

• Active Secret Clearance.
• One DoD 8570 IAT Level II Certification (CySA+, Security+, CCNA Security, GICSP, GSEC, SSCP).
• Bachelor's degree in an IT-related field.
• Experience developing software using Python and JavaScript.
• Understanding of software engineering principles and secure development practices.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain secure software applications using Python, JavaScript, and other modern languages.
• Implement secure coding practices per DoD directives and DISA STIGs.
• Design, build, and optimize web applications and user interfaces.
• Develop and maintain Web Service APIs (REST, SOAP, GraphQL) for data integration.
• Apply Agile/Scrum, TDD, and OO design principles.
• Support CI/CD DevSecOps pipelines.
• Create and maintain database schemas, data dictionaries, and architecture docs.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate requirements into software solutions.
• Provide system integration support across environments.

Job description

Zachary Piper Solutions is currently seeking a Software Engineer to support a US NAVY IT Services contract based in San Diego, CA. This is a full-time, onsite position requiring 100% on-site support. As a Software Engineer, you will support mission-critical Department of Defense initiatives by developing, securing, and maintaining software applications across both unclassified and classified environments. You will play a key role in delivering modern software solutions, implementing secure development practices, integrating systems, and supporting Agile-driven DevSecOps initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain secure software applications using Python, JavaScript, and other modern programming languages.
• Implement secure coding practices and embed security throughout the software development lifecycle in accordance with DoD directives and DISA STIGs.
• Design, build, and optimize intuitive web applications and user interfaces.
• Develop and maintain Web Service APIs, including REST, SOAP, and GraphQL integrations, to aggregate and distribute data from multiple sources.
• Utilize Agile/Scrum methodologies, Test-Driven Development (TDD), and object-oriented design principles.
• Support software delivery within a CI/CD DevSecOps pipeline.
• Design, publish, and maintain database schemas, data dictionaries, and system architecture documentation.
• Identify and resolve technical debt while improving system performance, scalability, and maintainability.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate user requirements into technical specifications and software solutions.
• Provide system integration support across multiple environments and platforms.
• Author and maintain technical documentation, system diagrams, and software implementation guides.
• Participate in code reviews, testing activities, and software quality assurance efforts.
• Support development and deployment activities within containerized environments.

Compensation to include:

• Salary Range: $125,000 - $135,000 depending on experience
• Full Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K, PTO, Sick Leave if Required by Law
