Job Details:

The primary responsibility is to support and upgrade applications written in Microsoft Visual Basic 6 and C#. Onsite technical evaluation is needed to understand how the laboratory operates and how the software systems are used by the onsite personnel. Candidate must be able to troubleshoot legacy software and design replacement software using modern technology.

Roles and Responsibilities

1. Should have more exposure as back-end developer.
2. Evaluate existing legacy systems. May require direct communication with vendors and laboratory SMEs to understand the technical requirements.
3. Design, code, and unit test software solutions. Software must use object-oriented design and industry standard best practices.
4. Participate in the full SDLC. Help to review requirements for completeness and feasibility. Help other team members, such as QA testers, to understand technical specifications that may be needed to perform System or Integration Testing.
5. Review new and existing modules to ensure optimal performance and stability.
6. Own the interfaces that are delivered and be an SME for those interfaces to provide support, understand the impact of enhancements, and evaluate the potential risk of changes.
7. Work with other software engineers to discuss design, ensure best practices are followed, and perform design and code reviews.
8. Work directly with the Team Lead, report any issues or delays, and provide recommendations for solutions.
9. Contribute to the team's continuous improvement of processes and procedures.

Skills and Qualifications

1. Education Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
2. Work Experience: Minimum 7 years of experience in Microsoft related software engineering, may have a mix of Microsoft and Java experience.
3. Communication: Ability to read and evaluate technical specifications. Ability to write design documentation. Ability to communicate effectively with IT team members and non-IT personnel (e.g., lab employees).
4. Demonstrated proficiency in object-oriented design, relational databases, multi-tier architectures, and web-related technologies.
5. Languages/Frameworks/Platforms/etc: Visual Basic, .NET, MS SQL Server, RESTful Webservices, SQL/T-SQL/PL-SQL or equivalent, XML, JSON. Some Java experience also preferred.
6. Desired: Experience with medical systems, ASTM, HL7, Angular.
