Job summary

Variance in San Francisco is seeking a software engineer with 1–3 years of professional experience to own features end-to-end across backend and UI. You will work with React/Next.js, TypeScript, MySQL, and ClickHouse, delivering in hours rather than quarters.

You’ll partner with the founders on frontier problems and help scale the product into new industries through pilots and live demos. You will design real-time AI interfaces balancing precision, speed, and user trust while collaborating

Qualifications

• Are comfortable with our tech stack: React/Next.js, TypeScript, MySQL, and ClickHouse for agent context, though we value strong fundamentals over experience with any specific technology
• Enjoy owning features end-to-end, from backend systems to polished UI to production
• Thrive in fast-moving environments with short iteration cycles and a high degree of responsibility
• Are excited by the prospect of building AI interfaces for high-stakes decisions that protect people from fraud, scams, and abuse

• Design systems where AI must decide in real time, balancing precision, speed, and user trust
• Help improve the product through rapid feedback, experimentation, and strong execution
