Job summary

CMC Electronics is seeking a Software Engineer at our Reston, VA location to develop avionics software for commercial and military aviation. You will work across the full lifecycle from design to documentation, ensuring compliance with avionics standards and high reliability.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or computer science, 2+ years in software development, and strong C/C++ skills. Travel up to 15% is expected; onsite work in Reston, VA is required.

This is an onsite position in our Reston, VA office location. Must be authorized to work in the US. To conform to U.S. export control regulations, applicant should be eligible for any required authorization from the U.S. Government.

What You Bring (Required Qualifications)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related field
  • 2+ years of experience in software development
  • Proficiency in C/C++
  • Willingness to travel up to 15%
What Sets You Apart (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Experience with flight management, autopilot, navigation, or other avionics systems
  • Familiarity with software configuration and requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS)
  • Knowledge of DO-178C certification processes
  • Experience with real‑time operating systems (RTOS)
  • Experience with communication protocols (e.g., RS-232, RS-422, ARINC 429, CAN bus, IEEE-1394)
  • Background in avionics software development

Summary pay range: Level II: $85,000 - $107,000; Level III: $100,000 - $135,000; Level IV: $125,000 - $165,000
