Job description

We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer to support, maintain, and enhance our Speaker Bureau technology platform. This role will work within an established C#/.NET application built on ASP.NET Web Forms, taking ownership of troubleshooting, enhancements, reporting, and ongoing improvements to the platform.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a legacy production codebase, can quickly understand existing systems and business logic, and knows how to make thoughtful improvements without unnecessarily introducing risk. This person should be equally comfortable debugging application code, investigating data in SQL Server, building reports and ad-hoc queries, and using modern AI-assisted development tools to work more efficiently.

Experience supporting applications in the pharmaceutical or life sciences industry is strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and enhance an existing C#/.NET ASP.NET Web Forms application.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues within a mature/legacy codebase, including tracing application behavior across existing business logic, database interactions, and integrations.
  • Become familiar with an existing application quickly and work effectively even when documentation is incomplete.
  • Identify opportunities to improve legacy code as part of ongoing development and support work.
  • Refactor and modernize components where appropriate while maintaining application stability and existing business functionality.
  • Investigate production issues, determine root causes, and implement durable fixes rather than temporary workarounds.
  • Work extensively with Microsoft SQL Server, including:
  • Writing and troubleshooting SQL queries.
  • Constructing complex and ad-hoc queries to answer operational and business questions.
  • Investigating application and data issues directly within the database.
  • Developing and modifying reports and data extracts.
  • Understanding existing database structures, relationships, stored procedures, and application dataflows.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve query performance and data-access patterns.
  • Translate operational and business requirements into practical technical solutions.
  • Support ongoing enhancements and feature development for the Speaker Bureau platform.
  • Review existing implementations and recommend improvements where appropriate rather than simply extending legacy patterns.
  • Produce maintainable, well-documented code and technical solutions.
  • Collaborate with technical and business stakeholders to understand issues and determine appropriate solutions.
  • Use modern AI-assisted development tools such as Claude and/or OpenAI Codex to accelerate code analysis, debugging, development, documentation, testing, and understanding of legacy systems.
  • Apply sound engineering judgment when using AI-generated code or recommendations, including reviewing, testing, and validating output before implementation.
Required Technical Skills
  • Strong professional experience with C# and the Microsoft .NET Framework.
  • Experience developing and maintaining ASP.NET Web Forms applications.
  • Strong SQL skills, including the ability to independently construct queries for investigation, reporting, analysis, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience debugging complex applications and tracing issues through application code and database layers.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within legacy or mature codebases.
  • Ability to understand unfamiliar code, identify how existing functionality works, and make changes safely.
  • Experience maintaining and improving production applications where business continuity and reliability are important.
  • Familiarity with source control and standard software development practices.
  • Experience using AI coding/development tools, preferably Claude and/or OpenAI Codex, as part of day-to-day engineering workflows.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or arelated technical field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience working with pharmaceutical, life sciences, healthcare, or other highly regulated industry applications.
  • Experience with pharmaceutical Speaker Bureau, HCP engagement, meeting/event management, or related platforms is particularly valuable.
  • Understanding of the operational and compliance considerations associated with pharmaceutical programs.
  • Experience modernizing or incrementally improving older .NET applications without requiring a complete rewrite.
  • Experience supporting business-critical internal or client-facing applications.
  • Experience developing operational reports, exports, and data analysis tools from SQL Server data.
What We're Looking For

This role requires someone who is comfortable inheriting an existing system rather than starting with a clean slate. The successful engineer should be able to look at unfamiliar or older code and systematically determine what it does, why it behaves the way it does, and how to fix or improve it safely.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is a strong technical problem solver and debugger.
  • Is comfortable navigating code they did not originally write.
  • Does not view a legacy codebase as something that must automatically be rewritten.
  • Can distinguish between areas that should remain stable and areas where incremental modernization will materially improve the application.
  • Can independently investigate both application and data-related issues.
  • Understands that SQL and the underlying data are often essential to diagnosing application behavior.
  • Uses AI development tools effectively while still applying their own engineering judgment.
  • Can balance speed, maintainability, reliability, and business requirements.
  • Takes ownership of problems from investigation through resolution.
