Job summary

NRC Health is seeking a skilled software engineer to design and build customer-facing functionality on a cloud-native healthcare platform. You will own deployments, build reliable Kubernetes-based systems, and implement IaC to provision cloud resources, while improving CI/CD pipelines and observability.

You will collaborate across teams to enhance deployment workflows, automate operations, and leverage AI-powered tools to accelerate delivery.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in computer science or related field.
  • Strong software engineering experience with production applications.
  • Experience administering Kubernetes clusters (EKS preferred).
  • Experience with AWS services: EKS, RDS, IAM, S3, Route 53, ALB, CloudWatch.
  • Designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines; IaC experience (Terraform/CloudFormation).
  • Automating infrastructure, deployments, or operational workflows.
  • Understanding distributed systems and cloud architecture.
  • Troubleshooting production systems in cloud environments.
  • Familiarity with observability and logging platforms.
  • Proficiency with AI-assisted development tools to improve code quality.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and enhance customer-facing product functionality across our healthcare platform.
  • Own the software and services you build with reliability and scalability in mind.
  • Build and maintain Kubernetes-based deployments.
  • Design, implement, and maintain Infrastructure as Code to provision cloud resources.
  • Improve CI/CD pipelines for automated software delivery.
  • Create reusable infrastructure modules to improve consistency and reliability.
  • Automate operational processes to reduce manual work.
  • Collaborate with engineers to improve deployment processes and workflows.
  • Monitor production environments and improve observability and health.
  • Identify and resolve scalability, performance, and reliability challenges.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and implement durable solutions.
  • Leverage AI-assisted development tools to accelerate software delivery and quality.
  • Participate in architecture discussions and contribute to long-term direction.
  • Write clean, well-documented, maintainable code.

What you will do
  • Design, build, and enhance customer-facing product functionality across our healthcare platform.
  • Own the software and services you build, designing with reliability, scalability, and maintainability in mind to develop high-quality software using modern engineering practices.
  • Build and maintain Kubernetes-based application deployments.
  • Design, implement, and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to provision and manage cloud resources.
  • Improve CI/CD pipelines to enable reliable, automated software delivery.
  • Build reusable infrastructure modules and deployment patterns that improve consistency, reliability, and scalability.
  • Automate operational processes to reduce manual effort and improve platform reliability.
  • Collaborate with software engineers to improve deployment processes, developer workflows, and platform capabilities.
  • Monitor production environments and continuously improve observability, alerting, and operational health.
  • Identify and resolve scalability, performance, reliability, and operational challenges.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and implement durable, long-term solutions.
  • Leverage AI-assisted development tools to accelerate software delivery, improve code quality, automate repetitive tasks, generate tests, improve documentation, and solve technical problems.
  • Participate in architecture discussions and contribute to the long-term technical direction of the platform.
  • Write clean, maintainable, well‑tested, and well‑documented code.
What you need
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, MIS, IT, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience and the demonstrated ability to learn
  • Strong software engineering experience developing production applications.
  • Experience administering Kubernetes clusters (Amazon EKS preferred).
  • Experience working with AWS cloud service such as EKS, RDS, IAM, S3, Route 53, ALB, and CloudWatch.
  • Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar).
  • Experience automating infrastructure, deployments, or operational workflows.
  • Understanding of cloud architecture, scalability, distributed systems, and modern application design.
  • Experience troubleshooting production systems in cloud environments.
  • Familiarity with observability, monitoring, and logging platforms.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, ChatGPT, or similar to improve software development effectiveness.
  • For candidates newer to AI-assisted development, a strong willingness and proven ability to rapidly learn and adopt modern AI‑powered engineering workflows.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills with an ownership mindset.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
Nice to have
  • Experience with GitOps tools such as Argo CD or Flux.
  • Experience with Docker and container security.
  • Experience implementing observability using Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with Linux system administration.
  • Experience supporting highly available production systems.
  • Experience in healthcare or other regulated industries.
Compensation

In the spirit of pay transparency, we are excited to share the base salary range for this position is $80,000 - $116,000, exclusive of fringe benefits or potential bonuses. If you are hired at NRC Health, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as skills, education, and/or experience. In addition to those factors – we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth. We also offer a generous compensation and benefits package. NRC Health is not currently hiring in DE, HI, MD, NJ, RI, D.C. While this position may allow for a work from home environment, preferred candidates live in the Lincoln, Nebraska and surrounding areas.
