Job summary

Leidos Defense in Huntsville is seeking a Software Engineer to develop software for counter UAS and missile defense in a Linux environment. You will work onsite in our Huntsville office, using C++ and Python within a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) to deliver robust software solutions.

The ideal candidate will have a BS or MS in a related field and 4+ years of software development experience, with strong C/C++ and Python skills, and familiar with HWIL environments.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited degree in software engineering, CS, or CE with 4+ years of experience OR MS with 2+ years of experience.
• Strong competency in C/C++ and Python.
• Experience across the software lifecycle and with best practices (peer reviews, automated testing, docs).
• Experience collaborating with systems engineering, electrical, test teams to deliver software.
• Experience working in Agile environments and with Jira and Gitlab.
• Experience developing with Qt IDE and Linux.
• Willingness to relocate to Huntsville, AL or currently residing there.
• Ability to obtain a Secret clearance.

Leidos Defense is seeking a talented Software Engineer to work onsite in our Huntsville office. The role involves developing software for critical counter UAS and missile defense solutions in a Linux environment, using languages such as C++ and Python within a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe).

Primary Responsibilities

• Develop software for use in a Linux environment.
• Develop software in a SAFe environment using Jira and Gitlab.
• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to implement desired software functionality.
• Utilize software best practices such as peer reviewing and unit testing.
• Debug and troubleshoot software in a HWIL setting.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent from an ABET‑accredited university with 4+ years of experience OR Master’s degree with 2+ years of experience.
• Strong competency in at least C/C++ and Python.
• Experience with software engineering throughout the software lifecycle.
• Experience with software best practices such as peer reviews, automated testing, and documentation generation.
• Experience collaborating with other functional groups (systems engineering, electrical engineering, test, etc.) to create a software product.
• Experience working within an Agile environment.
• Experience using tools such as Jira and Gitlab.
• Experience developing within Qt IDE.
• Experience developing in a Linux environment.
• Familiarity with troubleshooting/testing software in an HWIL environment.
• Currently living in Huntsville, AL or willing to relocate.
• Currently holds or has the ability to obtain a Secret clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Buildroot and VMWare.
• Experience using Wireshark and developing software that sends communications over a network (UDP/TCP).
• Supporting and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
• DoD acquisition processes and methods.

Pay Range: $87,100.00 – $157,450.00.
