Job summary

CAC I is seeking a Software Engineer to join a mission-driven engineering team supporting national security programs. You will build and enhance software powering complex systems, using Python and modern AI concepts, with a focus on performance and reliability. You’ll collaborate with experienced engineers and may lead project efforts as needed.

The role requires TS/SCI with Polygraph, 3+ years SWE experience, and a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. On-site at Fort Meade, Maryland.

Responsibilities

• Translate user needs into clear software design and performance requirements.
• Develop new features, improve existing capabilities, and contribute to overall system enhancements.
• Debug and resolve software defects to improve reliability and performance.
• Integrate software components into new or evolving systems and environments.
• Create simple data queries and interfaces for databases and data repositories.
• Recommend improvements to documentation, development standards, and engineering processes.
• Design and implement algorithms that meet or exceed performance and functional expectations.
• Support the creation and execution of software test procedures.
• Write, maintain, and review technical documentation for software and systems.
• Investigate system workflows, data usage, and operational challenges to develop effective software solutions.
• Serve as a team lead when appropriate based on the project’s development methodology
• Modify software to adapt to new hardware, correct errors, or enhance performance
• Use scientific analysis and modeling to design, develop, and refine software systems.
• Build complex queries and data interfaces for advanced data repositories.
• Apply strong Python skills to develop robust, production‑ready applications.
• Develop and maintain applications capable of supporting hundreds or thousands of users.
• Apply modern AI development concepts—including prompt engineering, context management, structured outputs, and tool/function calling to accelerate development.
• Build resilient, scalable stream‑processing applications using modern messaging and event‑streaming platforms.
• Utilize AI coding assistants to streamline code generation, refactoring, debugging, and automation.

Qualifications

Required

• Active TS/SCI w/ Polygraph
• 3+ years of Software Engineering experience supporting programs of similar scope and complexity.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline from an accredited institution.
• Degree substitution: Four (4) additional years of SWE experience may substitute for a bachelor’s degree.

Desired

• Experience with agentic workflows and multi‑agent orchestration.
• Background in cybersecurity or familiarity with security operations workflows.
• Experience deploying systems in AWS Cloud using Kubernetes.
• Experience with GitLab CI/CD automation.
• Hands‑on familiarity with retrieval systems (RAG, vector databases, semantic search).
• Ability to analyze cybersecurity‑related data (network traffic, OS events).
• Knowledge of SIGINT collection and analysis systems.
• Experience supporting production CNO capabilities and operations.
