Job summary

GS1 US is hiring a Software Engineer to design, develop, test, and support cloud-based applications. You’ll work with product owners and engineers to build scalable, secure solutions using modern practices, with emphasis on AI-assisted development tools and OpenAPI documentation.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years in C#/.NET, RESTful APIs, Azure SQL, and Git/GitHub, along with SDLC and Agile proficiency and strong communication skills. Hybrid work model and bonus eligibility apply.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in CS/engineering.
  • 3–5 years of software development with C# and .NET.
  • Mandatory knowledge of AI tools and AI development skills.
  • Experience designing RESTful APIs, OpenAPI, documentation and versioning.
  • Experience with Azure SQL and Git/GitHub or Azure DevOps.
  • Understanding of SDLC and Agile methodologies.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

We are currently recruiting for this position, which offers an annual salary of $90,000 - $115,000. This position qualifies for participation in our annual employee bonus program.

Job Description:

The Software Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and supporting applications and services within GS1 US's cloud-based technology platform. This role works closely with product owners, architects, engineers, and business stakeholders to build scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions using modern development practices.

The ideal candidate has experience with .NET development, APIs, cloud technologies, and AI-assisted software development tools such as GitHub Copilot and Claude. This individual is passionate about learning, embraces emerging technologies, and uses AI tools responsibly to improve productivity, code quality, and delivery speed.

Responsibilities
Software Development
  • Code Design, develop, test, and maintain applications and services using C# and .NET technologies.
  • Build and enhance RESTful APIs and integrations.
  • Develop and optimize database solutions using Azure SQL and other data platforms.
  • Participate in application modernization and cloud-native development initiatives.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve application defects and performance issues.
AI-Assisted Engineering
  • Leverage AI-powered developer tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, and other approved AI platforms to accelerate development activities.
  • Apply AI tools to code generation, refactoring, documentation, testing, debugging, and analysis.
  • Validate AI-generated code for quality, security, maintainability, and compliance with engineering standards.
  • Stay informed on emerging AI capabilities and incorporate best practices into daily development workflows.
Quality & Delivery
  • Develop software using Test-Driven Development (TDD) and other modern engineering practices to ensure high-quality, maintainable, and reliable solutions.
  • Apply DevSecOps principles by incorporating security, quality, and compliance considerations throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Write unit, integration, and automated tests.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices.
  • Support CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes.
  • Monitor applications and assist with production support and incident resolution.
Collaboration
  • Work with cross-functional stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Collaborate with architects, solution engineers, and other engineers on platform enhancements.
  • Contribute to technical documentation and knowledge-sharing activities.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including planning, refinement, reviews, and retrospectives.
Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 years of software development experience using C# and .NET.
  • Mandatory Knowledge of AI tools and demonstrable skills in AI development and/or Machine Learning
  • Experience designing, developing, and supporting RESTful APIs, web applications, and OpenAPI specifications (Swagger), including API documentation, versioning, and integration best practices.
  • Experience with databases such as Azure SQL
  • Experience working with source control systems such as Git and Azure DevOps or GitHub.
  • Understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) practices and Agile methodologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure services such as App Services, Azure Functions, Service Bus, Azure SQL, and Cosmos DB.
  • Experience with YAML based CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools, including GitHub Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT, or similar platforms, within a professional software engineering environment.
  • Familiarity with OpenAPI specifications and API documentation.
  • Knowledge of cloud-native application design principles.
