Job summary

ATR International seeks an experienced Ignition SCADA developer to architect, implement, and test enterprise SCADA solutions using Ignition, Python/Jython, and PostgreSQL.

You will design robust data pipelines, build scalable database schemas, and integrate SCADA with PLCs from Allen-Bradley and Siemens, MES/ebR, and cloud containers.

Must thrive in a regulated FDA/GxP environment and collaborate with global plant teams to deliver compliant, reusable templates and standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering or computer science discipline.
• 7+ years software/SCADA experience, or 5+ years with Ignition focus.
• Master’s/PhD plus 4+ years in software/SCADA.

Job description

• Ignition SCADA Development: Architect, develop, test, debug, and implement advanced SCADA applications, screens, gateway configurations, and custom scripts using Inductive Automation Ignition, Python (Jython), and PostgreSQL.
• Database & Data Pipelines: Design optimized relational database schemas (SQL/PostgreSQL), write complex queries, and construct data integrations to connect manufacturing equipment with enterprise reporting tools.
• Systems Architecture & Standards: Determine systems software design requirements and generate enterprise SCADA development policies, coding standards, reusable project templates, and documentation.
• Software Lifecycle in Regulated Environments: Deliver robust software through full lifecycle activities (requirements, development, testing, release) operating within a regulated Quality System environment (FDA/GxP).
• Cross-Functional & Global Collaboration: Partner with plant controls engineers, IT, Operations, and site leaders across global facilities to roll out scalable SCADA architecture and digital manufacturing initiatives.

Core Technical Priorities

• Ignition SCADA & Scripting Mastery: Hands-on expertise building enterprise-grade Ignition projects (Vision, Perspective, Gateway development, Tag Management, Transaction Groups) and writing custom logic in Python/Jython.
• Database & Data Infrastructure: Strong competency in SQL database design and query optimization (PostgreSQL/SQL Server) for real-time manufacturing data collection, transactional logging, and system integration.
• Digital Manufacturing & Systems Integration: Experience connecting SCADA layers with equipment/PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens), MES/eBR systems, or cloud/containerized environments (Docker/Podman).

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Experience Options:
• Bachelor’s Degree + 7+ years of software engineering / SCADA development experience (or 5+ years of software/systems engineering experience with a heavy focus on Ignition SCADA implementation).
• Advanced Degree (Master's/PhD) + 4+ years of software engineering / SCADA development experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ignition Certification: Inductive Automation Ignition Core or Gold Certification.
• Modern Technical Stack: Proficiency with containerization technologies (Docker, Podman), Linux OS, REST APIs, and Webhooks.
• PLCs & Controls: Experience troubleshooting and interfacing with PLC controllers (Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens).
• Analytics & BI Integration: Hands-on experience exposing Ignition data to BI/Analytics tools (Power BI, Tableau, MQTT pipelines).
• Agile Software Delivery: Experience working in Scrum/Agile environments (CSPO, SAFe).
• Regulated Industry Context: Experience in Medical Device, Pharmaceutical, or GxP-regulated manufacturing environments.
