Job summary

Arcfield is seeking software engineers in Rome, NY to design, develop, test, and maintain advanced software systems for government and commercial projects.

You will work in an Agile Scrum team, develop primarily in Java and C++, and collaborate with testers, engineers, and customers to deliver robust solutions on Red Hat Linux environments.

Qualifications

  • BS in computer science/math/engineering with 2–4 years or MS with 0–2 years of recent software development.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance.
  • Proficiency in Java, C++, shell scripting, XML, Gitlab, VMWare, Eclipse and Linux.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Podman, Gitlab CI and bash or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Participate daily in an Agile Scrum development team environment and all Agile Scrum ceremonies.
  • Develop for Red Hat Enterprise Linux using security enhancements, containers, and cloud tech.
  • Analyze commercial and government data specifications.
  • Develop complex software primarily in Java and C++.
  • Develop software that integrates third party applications and capabilities.
  • Use Gitlab and other Agile development tools.
  • Interface with testers, fielding engineers, and customers.

Responsibilities

Experienced with frequent use and application of technical standards, principles and theories. Works under general supervision, providing solutions to technical problems of moderate scope/complexity.

  • Conducts research in design, development, testing and utilization of electronic data processing software.
  • Designs, develops, documents, tests and debugs applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions.
  • Conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software.
  • Determines computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; prepares operating instructions; designs and develops compilers and assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems.
  • Ensures software standards are met. Analyzes user needs and software requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints.
  • Confers with systems analysts, engineers, programmers and others to design system and to obtain information on project limitations and capabilities, performance requirements and interfaces.
  • Designs, develops and modifies software systems, using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcomes and consequences of design.
  • Coordinates software system installations and monitors equipment functioning to ensure specifications are met.

  • Have a computer science/math/engineering BS degree with 2-4 years or an MS with 0-2 years with recent software development work experience.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance.
  • Function well in a team environment.
  • Demonstrate proficiencies in Java, C++, shell scripting, XML, Gitlab, VMWare, Eclipse, Linux.
  • Have design and implementation knowledge/experience using object-oriented principles and patterns.
  • Have experience with relevant software engineering tools (configuration management systems, build processes, debuggers, emulators, simulators, and logic analyzers).
  • Are familiar with the full software engineering lifecycle.
  • Understand and have executed good coding principles and practices.
  • Have container-based development experience using Kubernetes, Podman, Gitlab CI and bash or equivalent.
  • Have strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, strong attention to detail, and quality oriented.
  • Remote work may be allowed, but must be located local to Rome, NY area.
It’d be even better if you have…
  • Knowledge of Agile development processes.
  • Exposure to Security Enhanced Red Hat Linux.
  • A SECRET clearance.
  • Additional programming language experience (e.g., Go, Rust, Swift, C#).
  • Working knowledge of secure coding practices and processes.
  • An understanding or working knowledge of test-driven development.
  • An understanding of public-key cryptography.

Equal Pay Act

This is the projected compensation range for this position. There are differentiating factors that can impact a final salary/hourly rate, including, but not limited to, Contract Wage Determination, relevant work experience, skills and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location (For Remote Opportunities), education and certifications as well as Federal Government Contract Labor categories. In addition, Arcfield ’s benefits offerings include, dependent upon position, Health Insurance, Life Insurance, Paid Time Off, Holiday Pay, Short Term and Long-Term Disability, Retirement and Savings, Learning and Development opportunities, wellness programs as well as other optional benefit elections. Min: $72,826.14 Max: $126,630.53
