Job summary

Unknown company seeks an Software Engineering Manager – Embedded Software for BIETC, Bangalore. You will lead a team of software engineers to deliver avionics products and ensure traceability from aircraft-level requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or higher.
  • 12–20 years of experience with at least 5 years in people management.
  • Knowledge of avionics DO-178B/C and ARINC 661.
  • Experience in avionics system design and development.

Job description

Position Overview

Software Engineering Manager – Embedded Software, BIETC, Bangalore.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a team of software engineers to develop and manage Avionics (Cockpit/Cabin) products.
  • Decompose aircraft‑level requirements to product‑line level and establish traceability.
  • Lead engineering and technical activities in Avionics Software Engineering, developing project or operational plans aligned with department objectives.
  • Implement plans to meet business, technical and customer requirements, assigning authority and responsibilities to team members.
  • Review plans, adjust as needed, resolve issues, and monitor metrics to ensure performance to plan.
  • Forecast resource needs, make hiring decisions, and coach, counsel, mentor employees, providing developmental opportunities.
  • Ensure team works effectively with all development teams and provide ongoing feedback.
  • Enforce company rules and policies regarding ethical behavior, safety, security, use of company property, time charging, etc.
  • Provide technical direction and guidance regarding approved processes, tools, technology and skills for projects.
  • Communicate development processes (including Iterative and Agile) and roles of software and system engineers.
  • Ensure workgroup products or processes meet customer, company, quality, industry and regulatory requirements.
  • Approve technical approaches, products and processes.
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders, maintain relationships, develop strategies and objectives aligned with the organization’s strategy.
  • Coordinate with US‑based stakeholders for planning and forecasting activities, report to senior management.
  • Drive innovation, identify opportunities for improvements in product, process, quality and productivity.
  • Act as point of contact for system engineering activities for equipment.
  • Develop and manage software development and verification results, support SRR, PDR, CDR, and software architecture development.
  • Adopt Model Based Development where applicable.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or higher.
  • 12–20 years of experience, with at least 5 years as a people manager.
  • Knowledge of DO‑178B/C, DO‑254, DO‑160, SAE ARP 4754, SAE ARP 4761, ARINC 661.
  • Experience in Avionics system design and development of Avionics applications.
  • Strong fundamentals in Real‑time Operating Systems, including HW/software/kernel level allocation.
  • Experience with cabin systems is preferable.
  • Systems thinking, analytical skills, and ability to understand inter‑relationships across the organization.
  • Demonstrated Software Engineering experience across multiple phases of the program life cycle.
  • Strong communication skills with engineers, executives, senior‑level management and non‑engineering staff.
  • Master’s degree preferred; post‑graduate degree in management a plus.
