Job summary

You will partner with product and program management, guide architectural decisions, and manage day-to-day work in an Agile environment, while mentoring the team and shaping the engineering strategy in Sunnyvale, CA.

Ring is looking for a Software Development Manager responsible for leading a team of engineers working on the development and production of safety and security based connected products, including sensors, networking backup systems, and connected accessories for security cameras, doorbells, and outdoor floodlight cameras. This team's work directly impacts millions of Ring customers worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

• Own software development and QA end to end.
• Work closely with engineers to architect and develop strong technical designs.
• Execute against project plans and provide timely delivery of committed results.
• Manage day‑to‑day activities of the engineering team within an Agile/Scrum environment.
• Manage department resources, staffing, and mentoring.
• Build, enhance, and maintain the engineering team.
• Report on status of development, quality, operations, and system performance to management.
• Maintain and enhance software framework.

Qualifications

• Experience in engineering team management.
• Experience working directly within engineering teams.
• Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and existing systems.
• Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations.
• Experience partnering with product or program management teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy.
• Experience recruiting, hiring, mentoring, and coaching teams of Software Engineers.
• Experience delivering products against plan in a fast‑paced, multi‑disciplined, distributed‑responsibility environment.
• Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field.
• Experience with AI/ML technologies.
• Strong knowledge in one or more of the following areas: camera and computer vision technologies; video and audio streaming; low power or battery power systems design; embedded system design; system architecture design for consumer devices with connectivity (WiFi, BLE); programming skill include C/C++; motion sensor technologies.

Compensation & Benefits

The base salary range for this position is 212,700.00 – 287,700.00 USD annually. The Amazon package includes sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location. Amazon also offers comprehensive benefits including health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, Basic Life & AD&D insurance), 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave.
