Amazon in Santa Clara, CA is seeking a Software Development Manager (SDM III) to lead a 14-engineer team focused on scalable control-plane services within EC2 Networking. You will guide technical direction, mentor engineers, and partner with EC2 Networking teams to deliver reliable, high-performance systems.

You'll shape the roadmap for scaling, placement, and disruption mitigation across the BigMac fleet, while balancing operational excellence with customer value and long-term architecture

Qualifications

• 3+ years of engineering team management experience.
• 7+ years working directly within engineering teams.
• 3+ years designing or architecting scalable systems.
• 8+ years leading the development of multi-tier web services.
• Knowledge of full software/hardware/networks life cycle processes.
• Experience partnering with product or program management teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow a team of 14 engineers building and operating high-availability control-plane services.
• Set the technical direction for scaling, placement, heat management, and disruption mitigation across the BigMac fleet.
• Drive the migration to the next generation of attachment management and improve scalability.
• Partner with EC2 Networking teams, owning interaction between the control plane and dependent services.
• Deliver real customer value while raising the bar on operational excellence.
