The American Board of Radiology (ABR) is seeking a Software Development Manager to lead our software development team in Tucson, AZ. This role focuses on guiding technical decisions, removing obstacles, and delivering high-quality applications that support the ABR's mission.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field preferred.
• 3+ years’ experience managing software development teams.
• Strong front-end skills: JavaScript, HTML, CSS.
• Experience with React, Vue, Angular, or Aurelia.
• Git version control; Node.js backend experience a plus.
• Excellent communication and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Supports the direction of the ABR through software development tasks as needed.
• Implements designs as specified or directed while making implementation decisions as required.
• Prioritizes and schedules work across assigned projects based on due date, priority, or business direction.
• Works to clear development blockers to ensure the team continually produces assigned work.
• Continually establishes best practices and procedures in support of department directives.
• Designs and documents systems to support requirements and specifications given by the business and IT Director.
• Manages and maintains the technical process for producing, testing and integrating code.
• Maintains confidentiality regarding information being processed, stored, or accessed.

The American Board of Radiology (ABR) is an independent, not-for-profit organization and is one of 24 national medical specialty boards that make up the American Board of Medical Specialties. We were founded in 1934 to protect the public by assessing and certifying doctors who meet specific educational, training, and professional requirements.

The ABR is seeking a collaborative, technically strong, and people-focused Software Development Manager to join our Software Development team. This role provides leadership for software developers and development initiatives, helping teams deliver high-quality applications that support the ABR's mission. The Software Development Manager is responsible for guiding technical decisions, removing obstacles, prioritizing work across projects, mentoring team members, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Supports the direction of the ABR through software development tasks as needed.
• Implements all designs as specified or directed while making implementation decisions as required.
• Prioritizes and schedules work across assigned projects based on due date, priority, or any other direction from the business and the IT Director.
• Works to clear all development blockers on a regular basis to ensure the development team is able to continually produce assigned work product.
• Continually establishes best practices and procedures in support of department directives, including continuous process improvement.
• Designs and documents systems to support requirements and specifications given by the business and the IT Director.
• Manages and maintains the technical process for producing, testing and integrating code.
• Continually fosters a positive team environment that maintains maximum efficiency and productivity.
• Reviews produced code and provides timely and relevant feedback when necessary.
• Debugs problems with applications utilizing appropriate techniques and methods.
• Provides leadership, supervision, coaching, and development for assigned staff to ensure effective performance, employee engagement and continuous growth.
• Maintains confidentiality regarding the information being processed, stored, or accessed.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field preferred.
• 3 or more years’ experience managing project teams
• Strong knowledge of front-end web development languages and technologies, JavaScript (ES 6 or above), HTML, CSS required.
• Experience with front-end web frameworks, such as React, Vue, Angular, or Aurelia.
• Comfortable with using Git version control.
• Backend experience with Node.js a plus.
• Master of modern web application development technologies
• Strong SQL skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent Attention to detail
• Ability to quickly troubleshoot and debug complex applications.
