Job description

Definity is a rapidly growing technology company transforming contingent workforce management through innovative software solutions. Our integrated platform supports healthcare staffing, vendor management, credentialing, and workforce analytics at enterprise scale. We are building a high-performance engineering culture focused on quality, reliability, collaboration, and rapid delivery.

Position Summary

We are seeking a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to design, build, and scale an enterprise-grade automation platform across web and API layers. This role is ideal for a hands‑on technical leader who thrives in modern SaaS environments, brings deep expertise in Playwright and TypeScript, and knows how to create automation that increases release confidence, reduces risk, and accelerates delivery.

As a senior individual contributor, you will partner closely with Product, Engineering, QA, DevOps, and Architecture to establish durable test architecture, scalable automation patterns, CI‑first execution standards, and high‑value test coverage across critical product workflows.

What You Will Drive
  • Build and evolve a unified automation framework using Playwright and TypeScript for end‑to‑end and API validation.
  • Implement scalable automation patterns, including Page Object Model, fixtures, reusable utilities, and environment‑aware configuration.
  • Author and maintain robust automated tests for critical user journeys, service workflows, and regression coverage.
  • Define risk‑based coverage priorities that maximize quality impact across critical product paths.
  • Design and execute API tests using Playwright API Request Context and strong assertion strategies.
  • Improve reporting and diagnostics through tools such as Allure, traces, screenshots, and failure analytics.
  • Drive CI/CD integration in Azure DevOps, including parallel execution and Docker‑based test runs.
  • Partner with teams to convert acceptance criteria into reliable, maintainable automated tests.
  • Contribute to migration of high‑value suites from legacy tools into a modern unified automation stack.
  • Establish automation quality standards for tagging, retries, coding practices, test data, and suite health.
Core Responsibilities
  • Partner with Architecture on framework direction, test design standards, and reusable automation strategy.
  • Build maintainable UI and API automation that supports release readiness and fast feedback.
  • Reduce flaky tests by applying stable synchronization patterns, strong test data practices, and effective debugging techniques.
  • Design for scale using modular test components, parallel execution and sustainable contribution workflows.
  • Create meaningful test observability with clear failure diagnostics, actionable reporting, and trend visibility.
  • Collaborate in Agile ceremonies as a quality advocate throughout the delivery lifecycle.
  • Mentor engineers and QA team members on automation best practices, framework usage, and technical standards.
Required Qualifications
  • 6+ years of QA automation experience in modern web, SaaS, or enterprise software environments.
  • Strong hands‑on expertise with Playwright and TypeScript.
  • Experience automating both UI and API tests within a unified test strategy.
  • Proven ability to design scalable test frameworks and reusable abstractions.
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD integration for automated test execution.
  • Experience with Azure DevOps pipelines or comparable enterprise CI tooling.
  • Working knowledge of Docker‑based test execution.
  • Solid SQL skills for backend validation, data integrity checks, and test investigation.
  • Strong defect investigation, debugging, and root‑cause analysis skills.
  • Ability to lead technical initiatives across teams and influence quality outcomes without direct authority.
  • Excellent communication skills with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in React, React Native, and .NET service ecosystems.
  • Hands‑on experience with Allure reporting and advanced Playwright debugging tools.
  • Familiarity with Zod schema validation in test design.
  • Experience migrating from legacy automation stacks such as Robot Framework or Postman collections.
  • Exposure to AI‑augmented test authoring workflows, including Playwright MCP or similar tools.
  • Performance or load testing exposure using tools such as k6 or Apache JMeter.
  • Experience mentoring automation engineers and improving engineering standards at organizational scale.
What Success Looks Like in the First 90 Days
  • A production‑ready Playwright and TypeScript framework running reliably in CI.
  • High‑value automated coverage for priority UI and API flows.
  • Measurable improvements in quality signals, including reduced flaky failures and stronger release confidence.
  • Actionable reporting that helps teams move quickly from failure detection to root‑cause analysis.
  • Clear standards for scalable test architecture, execution strategy, contribution workflows, and quality gates.
  • Meaningful progress migrating and decommissioning legacy automation suites.
  • Strong adoption of best practices through design reviews, coding standards, mentoring, and team enablement.
Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a top‑tier automation engineer who combines hands‑on technical depth with strong product judgment. They are comfortable building from the ground up, improving existing systems, mentoring others, and making pragmatic decisions that balance speed, reliability, maintainability, and business value.

Why Join This Team
  • Help define and scale automation foundations used across the organization.
  • Work on meaningful enterprise‑scale workflows with strong engineering partnership.
  • Shape tooling, standards, and a quality‑first engineering strategy with real ownership and impact.
  • Join a team that values high standards, clear communication, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.
