Job summary

WEX Mobility Engineering is seeking a Senior Java Developer to join our global backend team. You will design scalable microservices, build REST APIs, and contribute to CI/CD pipelines for SaaS and PaaS solutions serving EV charging and related reimbursements.

You will collaborate with distributed engineers, work in a DevOps culture, and implement robust backend architectures while adapting to the highly regulated payments domain.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
• 1+ years of hands-on Java development experience.
• Experience with Java, Springboot, REST APIs.
• Event-driven microservices with Docker, Kubernetes, Kafka.
• Strong SQL skills (Postgres/Liquibase) and CI/CD experience.
• Ability to work in a distributed Agile team and cloud deployments.

About The Team/Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Java Developer to join our WEX Mobility Engineering team, focusing on building innovative SaaS and PaaS solutions to support the EV energy transition. As part of this global team, you will contribute to developing products that enable on-route charging, at-home charging, and reimbursement solutions for EV users in the US and EU, while also enhancing systems that manage credit issuance and spend controls for fleet managers.

In this role, you will play a critical part in the entire software development lifecycle, from designing scalable architectures to ensuring robust deployment pipelines, empowering the team to achieve exceptional results.

Your expertise in Java and backend systems, along with your ability to collaborate across geographically distributed teams, will help drive the success and evolution of WEX Mobility products, ensuring they remain leaders in enabling sustainable and efficient fleet operations globally.

• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand customer challenges and design scalable backend solutions.
• Implement, and maintain robust REST APIs using Java and related frameworks.
• Analyze existing systems and processes to identify areas for improvement and scalability.
• Develop CI/CD pipelines and contribute to deployment automation.
• Adapt to new technologies and frameworks while navigating the challenges of working in the highly regulated payments domain.

Experience You’ll Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent education with 1+ years work experience.
• Solid hands-on experience developing applications using Java, Springboot, REST APIs
• Experience with event-driven microservices architecture using Docker, Kubernetes, Kafka
• Strong database skills (SQL, Postgres, Liquibase)
• Demonstrable CI/CD experience
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Have experience writing modern software deployed in the cloud
• Are comfortable with encryption schemes, modern APIs, and frameworks
• Have worked on agile teams to deliver software iteratively
• Are a highly adaptable, versatile, and dependable member of a highly agile and dynamic software engineering team.
• Drive a test-driven development approach and be happy to work and take responsibility for any stage within the software development life-cycle as required.

Plus

• Hands-on experience with:
• Event-driven architecture and tools like Kafka
• Cloud deployment and containerization using Docker and Kubernetes
• CI/CD tools like GitHub Actions or Argo CD
• Experience with technical design documentation and tools like JIRA and Confluence.

The base pay range represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position. Actual pay rates will vary and will be based on various factors, such as your qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. Base pay is one component of WEX's total compensation package. Most sales positions are eligible for commission under the terms of an applicable plan. Non-sales roles are typically eligible for a quarterly or annual bonus based on their role and applicable plan.
