Job summary

Zoom Communications, Inc. seeks a senior backend engineer to architect and evolve scalable real-time service frameworks using C++ and modern distributed systems. You will build AI-backed automation, and enable autonomous service orchestration across collaborative platforms.

Responsibilities include defining data models, Protobuf/gRPC interfaces, and robust CI/CD pipelines, while establishing performance benchmarks and telemetry-driven analytics for reliable cloud services.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Information Systems Management, Computer Science, or related field.
• 3 years of backend C++ experience for real-time services.
• 3 years in microservice architectures and Protobuf-based data serialization.
• 3 years with CI/CD tooling (Jenkins, GitLab) and performance optimization.
• Experience with cloud monitoring and troubleshooting.
• Telecommuting allowed; location flexibility within the US.

Responsibilities

• Architect and evolve large-scale real-time service frameworks to improve scalability, reliability, and latency performance, leveraging C++ and modern distributed systems design principles;
• Develop and integrate backend agentic AI solutions to enhance automation, intelligence, and adaptability in real-time collaborative systems—enabling autonomous service orchestration, intelligent data processing, and adaptive feature delivery;
• Develop standardized next-generation data models and inter-service communication layers for collaborative and interactive applications, incorporating advanced frameworks (e.g., Protobuf, gRPC) and ensuring backward compatibility across releases;
• Administer the continuous process of software development/integration/deployment utilizing Jenkins, Gitlab, and related;
• Establish and oversee performance benchmarking strategies, including creation of distributed load generation tools, synthetic test scenarios, and telemetry-based performance analytics;
• Monitor and troubleshoot cloud services using logging and monitoring tools.

What we're looking for

Requires a master’s degree in Information Systems Management, Computer Science, a related field, or a foreign equivalent. Must have 3 years of experience in the job offered or related occupation. Must have 3 years of experience in the following:

• 3 years of experience in C++ for backend service development;
• 3 years of experience in Realtime communication systems and micro service architectures;
• 3 years of experience in Protocol Buffers (Protobuf) for data serialization and communication;
• 3 years of experience developing server-side data management for 2D graphics or similar applications;
• 3 years of experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins and GitLab for software development, integration, and deployment;
• 3 years of experience performing performance testing, profiling, and optimization of software systems;
• 3 years of experience monitoring and troubleshooting cloud-based services using logging and monitoring tools.
• Telecommuting work arrangement permitted: position may work in various unanticipated locations throughout the U.S. Position does not require international or domestic travel.

Salary Range or On Target Earnings

Minimum:

$158,104.00

Maximum:

$186,000.00

In addition to the base salary and/or OTE listed Zoom has a Total Direct Compensation philosophy that takes into consideration; base salary, bonus and equity value.

Note: Starting pay will be based on a number of factors and commensurate with qualifications & experience.

We also have a location based compensation structure; there may be a different range for candidates in this and other locations.
