Job summary

JW Affinity IT is seeking an experienced Software Developer to design, enhance, integrate, and support applications used by a local municipality. This role focuses on modernizing digital services, automating internal processes, and improving reliability for employees, residents, and municipal operations.

The ideal candidate combines development expertise with the ability to translate business needs into secure, maintainable solutions in a structured public-sector environment.

Qualifications

• Must have 5–7 years of professional software development experience.
• Experience with relational databases such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, or MySQL.
• Working knowledge of SQL, data modeling, authentication, authorization, and logging.
• Experience with Git or another source-control platform.
• Understanding of the software development lifecycle, testing, deployment, and change management.
• Ability to translate business needs to technical requirements for nontechnical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance web-based and enterprise applications.
• Translate business requirements into secure, scalable technical solutions.
• Develop integrations between municipal applications, databases, cloud platforms, vendor systems, and third-party services.
• Build and maintain APIs, automated workflows, data exchanges, reports, and system interfaces.
• Support modernization of legacy applications and manual processes.
• Write clean, documented, reusable, and testable code.
• Troubleshoot defects, performance issues, and production incidents.
• Perform code reviews and participate in architecture discussions.
• Develop unit, integration, regression, and automated tests.
• Apply secure coding practices and remediate vulnerabilities.
• Maintain deployment instructions, technical specs, and version history.
• Support development, testing, staging, and production environments.
• Collaborate with analysts, infrastructure, cybersecurity, DBAs, vendors, and stakeholders.
• Assist with data conversion, migration, and user-acceptance testing.
• Provide technical support for production applications and participate in deployments.
