Position Summary
The Software Developer role supports the Marine Species Modeling Team (MSMT) within NUWC Newport’s Ranges, Engineering, and Analysis Department. This position focuses on translating complex mathematical and statistical algorithms into production‑ready Java code, maintaining alignment with engineering design standards, and ensuring algorithmic accuracy critical to environmental compliance modeling and Navy test/training operations. The role requires strong collaboration with MSMT modelers, engineers, and analysts, and includes contributing to broader acoustic modeling, signal processing, and system sustainment efforts.

This position operates in a secure government facility environment. The role involves routine use of computers, secure systems, and standard office/IT equipment. Work is performed on-site at NUWC Division Newport for more than 50% of scheduled hours.
Physical Demands:
Regularly required to talk and hear; frequently required to stand, walk, use hands, and reach with arms. Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. The typical workday is eight hours in length. Work hours must align with NUWC’s onsite access schedule, MSMT team collaboration rhythms, and contract requirements. Due to the dynamic and fast‑paced nature of MSMT tasking, day‑to‑day priorities may shift, and the employee must be able to adjust workflow in real time. Flexibility in schedule may be permitted with supervisor approval. Attendance at required onsite meetings, technical discussions, and team working sessions is expected. The employee must account for the full number of hours per pay period necessary to maintain full‑time status.
