Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in CS, software engineering, or 3+ years of software development.
  • Experience in Java or comparable languages and tools like Visual Studio.
  • Experience with the Spring Framework (Boot/MVC).
  • Designing and consuming REST APIs or web services.
  • Experience with relational databases, SQL, and ETL concepts.
  • Experience in Windows environments; able to work in Linux with Bash.
  • Understanding of software design, testing, debugging, and source control.
  • Willingness to learn new languages, frameworks, and codebases.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization and communication.

Responsibilities

Job description

Air Resource Specialists (ARS) has an immediate opening for a full-time Software Developer to join us in our Fort Collins, Colorado office. We are looking for a skilled and motivated individual to join our existing team to design, code, maintain and document custom software to support air quality and image data collection, handling, and presentation, including web sites and desktop applications, from those data.

Summary of Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, test, document and deploy custom web, desktop, and server-side applications
  • Develop and integrate REST APIs, web services, databases, and data-processing workflows
  • Understand requirements and how they translate to practical, maintainable software
  • Collaborate with air quality scientists, developers, IT staff, and end usersto set specifications for new applications
  • Evaluate technical options and make well-reasoned recommendations
  • Monitor applications, investigate errors, and respond to production issues
  • Apply appropriate testing, security, source-control, and code-review practices
  • Support, troubleshoot, upgrade, and modernize existing applications and legacy systems
  • Maintain clear technical documentation and provide user support or training as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field; or at least three years of professional software development experience
  • Demonstrated experience developing applications with Java or comparable programming languages and using development tools such as Microsoft Visual Studio
  • Experience with the Spring Framework, such as Spring Boot or Spring MVC
  • Experience designing and consuming REST APIs or other web services
  • Experience developing database-driven applications, including relational database design, SQL, and ETL concepts
  • Experience developing, maintaining, or supporting applications in a Windows environment
  • Ability to work effectively in Linux environments and use Bash or similar command-line tools
  • Understanding of software-design principles, testing, debugging, source control, dependency management, and secure development practices
  • Ability and willingness to learn unfamiliar languages, frameworks, systems, and existing codebases
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management
  • Clear written and verbal communication with technical and nontechnical colleagues
  • Desire and ability to work independently, and as part of a team
  • Strong analytical thinking and practical problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated integrity, honesty, accountability, and a positive attitude
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with one or more additional languages or platforms, such as Python, C#, VB.NET, or ASP.NET
  • Experience with Oracle and/or Microsoft SQL Server
  • Advanced SQL, query-optimization, stored-procedure, or ETL experience
  • Experience maintaining or modernizing legacy applications
  • Experience with automated testing, continuous integration, deployment pipelines, containers, or cloud services
  • Experience supporting production applications and troubleshooting performance or reliability issues
  • Experience working with scientific, environmental, image, geospatial, or time-series dataAbility to use AI-assisted development tools effectively, securely, and responsibly
  • Experience adapting, integrating, testing, debugging, and documenting AI-generated code within an existing codebase
