Job summary

Backblaze is seeking a Software Development Manager to lead the Computer Backup desktop client (Windows/macOS) and its backend services. You will drive long-term technical direction, multi-quarter delivery strategy, and overall team accountability, including budgets and staffing.

This hands-on management role involves architecture discussions, code reviews, and collaboration with product, QA, and release teams.

Qualifications

• Five+ years of engineering management leading software teams.
• Deep agile process experience with delivery ceremonies.
• Experience managing distributed remote teams with async work.
• Strong system architecture and hands-on design discussion.
• Full software lifecycle expertise from design to production support.
• Commitment to engineering quality and automated testing.
• Experience delivering desktop and backend software.
• Ability to balance speed with engineering rigor.
• Familiar with AI-assisted coding tools is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow the Backblaze Computer Backup desktop client and its backend services.
• Ensure desktop and backend areas share goals and agile delivery processes.
• Oversee the team's agile ceremonies across both areas.
• Own delivery from planning to post-launch support with QA partnership.
• Ensure reliability, performance, and maintainability of products.
• Champion unit testing and automated test coverage.
• Participate in code reviews and architectural decisions.
• Partner with Product Management to shape roadmap and milestones.
• Coordinate with QA and release teams for clean handoffs.
• Champion AI-assisted development tools and responsible usage.
• Improve team productivity by removing bottlenecks and investing in tooling.
• Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and hiring.
