Job summary

Blue Origin on the Space Coast, FL, is seeking a Softgoods Technician for the Lunar Lander program. You will fabricate, assemble, and inspect softgoods components using industrial sewing machines, hand-stitching, and precision bonding to human-rating standards, supporting high-rate production and collaboration with engineering.

This on-site role offers Monday-Thursday shift 5am–3:30pm, relocation available, and opportunities to influence workmanship, materials, and design while advancing lunar

Qualifications

  • Ability to interpret patterns, instructions, and drawings for flight hardware.

Responsibilities

Softgoods Technician - Lunar Lander

As a SoftgoodsTechnicianfor the Lunar Program, you will fabricate, assemble, and inspectsoftgoodscomponents forBlue Origin's Lunar Lander.Using industrial sewing machines, hand-stitching techniques, and precision bonding processes,you'llbuild crew cabin assemblies, harnesses, protective covers, cargo containment solutions, and structural soft components to human-rating standards. Your hands-onexpertisewill directly shape our manufacturing processes as we scale toward high-rate production, and your feedback will influence engineering decisions on workmanship, materials, and design. Position Specific Details:

**A Shift: Monday - Thursday (5am - 3:30pm), Location: Space Coast, FL, Relocation: Available**

Key Responsibilities:
  • Configure new production work areas with the necessary tooling and equipment to ensure efficient workflow and minimize any potential delays during the transition to high-rate manufacturing.

  • Identify and implement continuous improvement projects for safety and efficiency, enhancing overall productivity.

  • Drive the transition from development to production, proactively performing troubleshooting and maintenance as needed.

  • Maintain clean and organized work areas following 5S principles to promote safety and operational efficiency.

  • Tasks involve preparing and testing payload systems and hardware by applying materials, conducting painting, sealing, composite layup, repairs, testing, and assisting with vehicle assembly and installation.

  • Fabricate softgoods components using industrial sewing machines, hand-stitching techniques, and precision bonding processes on aerospace-grade textiles.

  • Execute pattern cutting and layup operations for crew cabin assemblies per engineering drawings and specifications.

  • Perform detailed assembly and sub-assembly work on harnesses, protective covers, and structural soft components with attention to NASA human-rating standards and workmanship requirements.

  • Conduct in-process and final inspections of softgoods assemblies, verifying dimensional accuracy, stitch quality, material integrity, and compliance with engineering specifications.

  • Maintain strict Foreign Object Debris (FOD) control protocols and cleanroom discipline in all manufacturing areas.

  • Document work orders, material usage, and inspection results in Electronic Work Orders and maintain accurate records.

  • Contribute to team goals including schedule adherence, cost management, and zero-defect quality culture.

  • Maintain a safe work environment by following all safety protocols, participating in safety briefings, and reporting hazards immediately.

  • Strong attention to detail, essential for complex integration tasks .

  • Operate and use precision calibrated tools (Torque Wrenches, micrometers, etc.) to maintain high safety and quality standards.

Team Focus & Domain Expertise:

This role will be supporting our Lunar Lander products.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in operating industrial straight stitch and bartack sewing machines

  • Perform precision measuring, cutting, sewing, and assembly of softgoods for development and flight hardware to exacting specifications

  • Interpret flat patterns, work instructions, and requirements documentation to ensure accurate fabrication

  • Perform inspection of cut parts and sewn assemblies

  • Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to provide feedback and improve build processes

  • Maintain cleanroom or controlled environment standards as required for flight hardware integration

  • Knowledge of precision assembly processes and handling large aerospace components.

  • Effective in-person and virtual communication and collaboration skills within teams to foster a positive work environment.

  • Continuous improvement mindset and curiosity for optimizing processes, driving innovation.

  • Ability to work A, B, C and D shift as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 0-3 years Level I Support Technician

  • 3+ Level II Support Technician

  • 5+ Level III Support Technician

  • 8+ SR Level Support Technician

  • Experience working on human space flight soft goods or aerospace soft goods

  • Experience working on consumer soft goods products such as backpacks, harnessing, safety gear, workwear, or outdoor apparel.

  • Experience with material handling and large-scale cutting tables

  • Experience with physical testing of soft goods materials and assemblies

  • Translate engineering definition to 2D flat patterns

  • Ability to maintain and troubleshoot industrial sewing machines

  • Experience with heat seal assembly techniques

  • Maintain cleanroom or controlled environment standards as required for flight hardware integration

  • Knowledge of precision assembly processes and handling large aerospace components

  • Strong technical and leadership skills with a keen attention to detail, essential for leading teams in complex integration tasks.

  • Effective communication and collaboration skills within teams to foster a positive work environment.

  • Continuous improvement mindset and curiosity for optimizing processes, driving innovation.

  • Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma certification.

  • Willingness to work overtime.

  • Operate material handling equipment (forklifts, cranes, etc.)
