The State of New Hampshire, Department of Safety, Division State Police, State Office Complex Police Force (SOCPF) has a full-time vacancy for SOCPF Patrol Sergeant (Campus Patrol Sergeant), SOC Title 33-1012 SUPS OF POLICE-P1. This position has a 40 hour work week and is considered non-exempt.

Summary

Provides supervisory police coverage to the Governor Hugh J. Gallen State Office Park South with an emphasis on New Hampshire Hospital by coordinating unit work activities and monitoring criminal detection and investigation operations: and assists the supervising officer in commanding the State Office Complex Police Force (SOCPF).

Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience: Associate’s degree and 3 years of experience OR equivalent combination of 5 years of education and experience after high school. At least 3 years must be as a certified police officer (full-time certified).

License/Certification

Other Requirements

Eyesight and Hearing: Must have at least 20/100 in each eye uncorrected and corrected to 20/40 (near vision) and 20/30 (distant vision) in each eye and have normal uncorrected depth and color perception; must possess normal hearing sufficient to enable performance of essential job functions
Examinations:
Must pass a physical agility test designed to measure ability to perform essential job functions
Must pass a comprehensive background investigation including a fingerprint-based criminal background check and motor vehicle record check, polygraph examination, and psychological examination
Must pass a comprehensive medical examination, provided at the State’s expense and performed by a physician selected by the NH Division of State Police, indicating no physical conditions exist prohibiting the performance of essential job functions
Must pass unannounced drug testing

Service record must be free of any major infraction of divisional discipline for the past three (3) years
Must pass a fingerprint-based criminal background check and motor vehicle record check in order to ensure suitability for exposure to confidential information

AFTER-HIRE REQUIREMENTS

NH full-time police officer certification within the time frame established by the NH Police Standards and Training Council, and within 6 months of hire. Must maintain police officer certification throughout tenure of service.
Completion of the Department of Health and Human Services Mental Health Worker Training Program within the timeframe established by NH Hospital and no later than 12 months after hire

Responsibilities

Plans, assigns, and supervises unit activities as directed by the SOCPF Lieutenant to ensure the security and protection of multiple local, state, and federal agencies located on the campus of the Governor Hugh J. Gallen State Office Park South with an emphasis on New Hampshire Hospital and mental health issues; allocates and adjusts staffing resources.

Supervises the operations of the State Office Complex Police Force on assigned shift with responsibility for evaluating the work performance, appearance and efficiency of subordinate personnel; documents and provides corrective guidance. Oversees and trains subordinate officers to enforce criminal, motor vehicle and all other appropriate federal and state laws rules and regulations as they relate to public safety. Supervises the inspection of facilities, personnel and equipment.

Appears in court as a witness in traffic violations, criminal cases or other administrative hearings as required; prepares, presents, evaluates and reviews cases for prosecution, up to the level of a class B misdemeanor, for review by appropriate prosecutor; serves warrants, domestic violence orders (DVOs) and juvenile petitions as applicable.

Monitors and enforces the policies and procedures governing the security and protection of campus property, including buildings, grounds, parking lots in and around the area, roadways and citizens.

Monitors movements and behavior of potentially dangerous patients/residents, and responds to and controls high risk situations involving out of control behaviors and psychiatric emergencies including the potential for injury to self and/or others.

Assists with the admission of patients, and searches for, locates and returns AWOL patients as applicable, to include possible transfer of patients to and from other institutions and court, both in and out of state.

Performs all characteristic duties and responsibilities for Campus Patrol Officer II (State Office Complex Police Officer II) as mandated by necessity or as assigned.

Enforces parking and traffic regulations, to include initiating traffic stops in marked cruisers to identify and apprehend violators, issuing verbal and written warnings and tickets, making in-custody arrests, and investigating traffic crashes.

Review summaries and reports of subordinate law enforcement staff for content, accuracy and required legal elements.

Maintains accurate records, data and reports to ensure that activities are properly documented and available for later use as the official records of events and activities.
