Job summary

The Ohio State University James Cancer Hospital is seeking a Social Worker for IRP to provide comprehensive psychosocial services to patients and families. The role covers inpatients, outpatients, and their families, with weekend shifts and an intermittent schedule at James Cancer Hospital (0375).

Responsibilities include psychosocial assessments, counseling, crisis intervention, discharge planning, financial counseling, and linking to community resources to support safe transitions and care

Qualifications

• Master of Social Work from an accredited Graduate School of Social Work.
• State of Ohio Social Work licensure (LSW or LISW) or equivalent education/experience.
• Experience in hospital social work preferred, particularly in IRP or related services.

Responsibilities

• Provide psychosocial assessments and counseling to inpatients, outpatients, and families.
• Deliver crisis intervention and supportive counseling.
• Coordinate discharge planning and financial counseling as needed.
• Educate patients and families on health resources and community services.
• Link patients to community agencies and resources to support care transitions.

Scope of Position

Provision of social work services to inpatients, outpatients, and their families in The Ohio State University James Cancer Hospital.

IRP Social Workers cover weekends and holidays.

Position Summary

Social work services include psychosocial assessments, mental health counseling, crisis intervention, financial counseling, discharge planning, health education and the provision of material resources and linkage with community agencies. Social work services are provided to patients/families to meet their medically related social and emotional needs as they impact on their medical condition, treatment, recovery, and safe transition from one care environment to another. Core competencies include: Psychosocial assessment, counseling and crisis intervention skills, Knowledge of the PASAAR process for extended care facility placement and the assessment and counseling processes involved, knowledge of home healthcare set-up process and skills assessing neglect/abuse, including substance abuse and domestic violence.

Minimum Qualifications

For Hire: Master of Social Work from an accredited Graduate School of Social Work; State of Ohio Social Work licensure (LSW or LISW) or equivalent education/experience.
