Job Description

JOB TITLE: School Social Worker

FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Exempt (Professional), salaried employee

WORK DAYS: 246 days per year (excluding paid holidays)

STANDARD HOURS PER DAY: 8 hours

SALARY & BENEFITS: Starting at $55,000, eligible for benefits under the Support Staff schedule

REPORTS TO: Director or Principal of the assigned school

SUPERVISES: No direct reports

Summary

The School Social Worker addresses barriers to student learning related to social, emotional, and mental health challenges. The role involves providing services at the school-wide, family, small group, and individual levels, with an assigned focus on either Intermediate (5th or 6th Grade) or Middle (7th or 8th Grade), subject to supervisor adjustments.

Essential Functions

• Utilize data to plan and implement evidence-based, culturally competent social work goals.
• Understand laws and policies affecting students and families to create protections and eliminate barriers.
• Provide assessment, intervention, and counseling services to support learning readiness.
• Develop knowledge of Warren’s virtual learning programs.
• Collaborate with school staff, families, and community leaders in a culturally responsive manner.
• Participate in multidisciplinary teams, including assessments and behavioral interventions.
• Offer brief individual and group counseling to students and families.
• Consult with staff and parents on student social and personal concerns.
• Link community resources to meet student and family needs.
• Advocate for student success, engaging families and the community, including home visits.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Entry-Level Requirements

Education: Master’s degree (MSW) in Social Work

Licenses: Indiana School Service Personnel license or LSW/LCSW from Indiana Professional Licensing Agency

Experience: Prior school social work experience preferred

Other: Ability to meet physical, sensory, and environmental requirements of the role

Physical & Sensory Requirements: Involves talking, listening, interaction, movement, and communication skills necessary for engaging with students, families, and staff

Additional Details

This position is part-time, entry-level, within the Primary and Secondary Education industry. Tasks are performed in a generally safe environment without significant exposure to adverse conditions.
