Are you mentally tough but compassionate? Are you inquisitive yet open-minded? Then this is the career for you!

This position involves receiving, screening, and investigating reports of neglect, abuse, and exploitation of children. It also includes assessing, diagnosing, planning, and implementing treatment plans aimed at preventing foster care and promoting rehabilitation through services provided to intact families in their own homes.

Applicants should be skilled in crisis intervention, decision-making, and capable of handling hostile clients. The role may involve legal interventions with law enforcement and the court system. Good communication skills are essential, as is the ability to acquire and apply knowledge of laws governing protective services.

The position requires after-hours emergency response, effective teamwork, and maintaining cooperative relationships with team members, community professionals, and agency leaders. A valid driver’s license and dependable transportation are necessary. Applicants must demonstrate intermediate personal computer skills.

Qualifications include:

  1. A Master's degree from an accredited school of social work with at least one year of social work experience, or
  2. A Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of social work with two years of social work or counseling experience, or
  3. A Master's degree in a counseling field with two years of social work or counseling experience, or
  4. A four-year degree in a human services field with three years of related experience, or
  5. Graduation from a four-year college or university with four years of experience in rehabilitation counseling, pastoral counseling, or a related human service field.

One year of work experience can be credited for completing the social work collaborative. PREFERENCES: Applicants with a BSW or MSW degree, or a master’s in human services with relevant social work courses and experience in a county social services department, will be prioritized. Only applicants meeting these specific requirements will be considered for an interview.

APPLICATION PROCESS: Applicants must complete and submit a Wilson County application online. Attach a resume (not a substitute for the application) and a copy of your college or university transcript. Incomplete or unsigned applications will not be processed.
