An established industry player in healthcare is seeking a compassionate MSW Social Worker to join its interdisciplinary team. This role involves providing essential counseling and support to patients and their families, ensuring they navigate the emotional challenges of illness. This worker will be under the supervision of the Director of Social Work but will operate with significant autonomy and specialized expertise in psychiatric services. They will also be part of the interdisciplinary team caring for patients across various units of the Medical Center.
The MSW Social Worker reports to and is accountable to the Director of Social Work.
The MSW Social Worker collaborates with all staff on the units as needed for patient care, total quality management, committees, focus groups, etc.
The MSW Social Worker serves in a consultative role to staff on the units as needed for patient care.
III. Authority: Provide social work services on unit(s), assisting patients and families in coping with plans and decisions before, during, and after hospitalization.
Supervise and train graduate-level social work students and other students when indicated and approved by the Social Work Supervisor, and when the MSW has met the requirements for supervision of the respective Graduate School of Social Work.
IV. A. Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
1.) Provide superior customer service to internal and external clients, customers, and patients, as referenced in the Service Excellence Standards.
The social worker may:
The social worker will provide counseling for patients, families, and friends as needed at the time of diagnosis, regarding adjustment to illness, emotional impact, and lifestyle changes.
The social worker will maintain continuity by supporting the patient and family throughout the course of illness.
When indicated, the social worker will counsel and support the patient and family during bereavement.
The social worker will manage cases by finding resources, providing concrete services, and making referrals to community agencies, including assistance with financial aid.
Documentation of social work activities will be maintained regularly and promptly in the patient's record.
The social worker will consult with the medical team regarding psychosocial needs and participate in staff in-service training.
The social worker may lead or co-lead support groups for patients and/or families when appropriate.
The social worker will engage with community organizations relevant to the patient population where possible.
Time permitting, the social worker will assess high-risk clinic patients, prioritizing problems within limited time, including those with histories of mental illness, retardation, child abuse or neglect, domestic violence, and substance abuse. These patients will be followed through pregnancy.
The social worker will also see patients in crisis and assist with concrete services as needed, including patients wishing to place their baby for adoption, referring them to the appropriate agency.
Minimum Education: A master's degree from an accredited school of social work is required for entry-level social workers.
Preferred qualifications include LCSW or LICSW licensure.
