Job description

Join to apply for the Social Worker EX role at Boston Medical Center (BMC).

This role reports to the Director of Social Work and involves working with autonomy and specialized expertise in psychiatric services. The social worker collaborates with interdisciplinary teams across various units, providing patient-centered social work services.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Providing individual and group counseling/therapy to patients and families.
  2. Supporting patient advocacy and providing psycho-social assessments.
  3. Making referrals and follow-up services, and collaborating with clinical teams.
  4. Facilitating care plans, crisis prevention, and supervising social work staff and students.
  5. Offering counseling for patients and families, assisting with adjustment to illness, and bereavement support when needed.
  6. Managing cases, including resource finding and referrals to community agencies.
  7. Documenting social work activities and participating in staff training and community engagement.
  8. Conducting psycho-social assessments for high-risk patients, including those with mental health issues, abuse histories, or substance abuse problems, especially during pregnancy.
  9. Providing support during crises and assisting with concrete services like adoption referrals.

Minimum Education: Master’s degree in social work from an accredited school. LCSW or LICSW preferred.
