Job summary

Good Samaritan Hospice in Roanoke, VA, seeks a compassionate Social Worker to join as an on-call counselor. This PRN role provides psychosocial support to patients, families, and caregivers, both in person and by phone, with duties spanning crisis intervention, grief support, and care coordination.

The ideal candidate holds a Master’s in Social Work, with LCSW licensure preferred, and at least three years of experience in social work or counseling, preferably in hospice or end-of-life care.

What we are looking for:

• Master’s degree in social work (from a school of social work accredited by the Council of Social Work Education); LCSW or licensure eligible preferred;
• At least three years of social work or counseling experience; hospice or end-of-life care preferred.

Schedule & Compensation

Schedule: PRN (as-needed) position. Team members are required to pick up a minimum of 15-20 shifts per month.

Available shift options include:

Weekdays: 5:00 PM – 8:30 AM

Weekends: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM (day) 5:00 PM – 8:30 AM (overnight)

Flexibility to work a mix of weekday and weekend shifts is expected.

Benefits: 401(k) with company match (100% match on the first 3%, 50% match on the next 1%) Eligible medical benefits, including dental and vision.

Starting Salary: $35/hour for time actively worked, including patient visits and other assigned clinical duties. When scheduled for on-call standby and waiting for a call, the on-call rate is $8/hour.

This is the starting salary for the position. Compensation may vary within the established salary range based on relevant experience, education, licensure, certifications, and other qualifications.
