Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL seeks a licensed social worker to provide psychosocial support to patients and families across inpatient and ambulatory settings, including the Emergency Department.

You will conduct psychosocial assessments, coordinate discharge planning, refer to community resources, and support care transitions while advancing through a clinical ladder with opportunities for ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Social Work required.
• Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
• Currently licensed as a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) by the Alabama State Board of Social Work Examiners required.
• For units/departments other than UAB Hospital, certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required or should be obtained within 30 days of employment.
• If job is in UAB Hospital, successful completion of First Five Rapid Response Basics online training required within 30 days of hire into position and must be maintained annually.

Responsibilities

• Provide psychosocial support to individuals, families and groups coping with chronic, acute or terminal illnesses.
• Advise family caregivers, provide patient education and counseling, and make referrals for other services.
• Facilitate discharge planning and identify community resources to assist patients and their families.
• Act as a clinical resource to social service students and the community.
