Job summary

Mt. Pleasant Public Schools in Mt. Pleasant, MI is seeking a School Social Worker for the 2023-2024 school year.

The role reports to Building Principal and is a 1.0 FTE position in the district. The successful candidate will provide individual and group counseling, participate in MTSS and PBIS initiatives, collaborate with counselors and classroom staff, conduct home visits, and support at-risk students with appropriate resources.

Qualifications

  • MSW with clinical license required.
  • 500+ clock hours of supervised practicum required.
  • At least 1 year of school social work experience with direction from a fully approved social worker.
  • Experience working with school age students.
  • Strong oral and written communications.

Responsibilities

  • Performs casework with individual students to address personal, social, or emotional issues impacting education.
  • Collaborates with counseling department on grade-level programming and planning.
  • Consults with school personnel to modify student behavior and plan supports.
  • Provides counseling to parents and connects families with resources.
  • Conducts home visits to gather background information.
  • Supports student adjustment to school.
  • Attends MTSS meetings for specific students.
  • Maintains records of daily schedules for audits.

Required Qualifications:
  • Master’s in Social Work~Clinical License
  • 500+ clock hours of a supervised social work practicum

At least 1 year of experience as a school social worker with direction from a fully approved social worker

  • Experience working with school age students.
  • Professional tact, diplomacy and presentation with administrators, staff, teachers, students, parents and community members
  • Competency in oral and written communications
  • Has undergone a physical examination, by a licensed physician, that documents capability to perform required duties
  • Has an electronic fingerprint clearance from a criminal history record check
Responsibilities:
  • Performs casework service with individual students to correct those personal, social, or emotional maladjustments related to their educational and social progress. Coordinates or serves as a member of diagnostic teams and educational planning and placement committees and provides biological, psychological, and sociological assessment information related to the planning for students with identified concerns.
  • Collaboration with counseling department colleagues, regarding grade level programming and planning
  • Consults and collaborates with other school personnel in gathering and giving information, and in establishing and planning for respective roles in the modification of student behavior.
  • Performs casework service with parents as an integral part of helping students by increasing their understanding of how to constructively participate in resolving a student problem(s), and with sharing of own knowledge of appropriate available resources.
  • Makes home visits for the purpose of gathering helpful background information related to the student.
  • Assists students with their adjustment to school.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by his/her supervisor.
  • Provide individual or small group counseling sessions for At-Risk identified youth as needed
  • Provide key positive behavioral instruction in classrooms to support building-wide PBIS processes.
  • Attend MTSS meetings when invited for specific students
  • Encourage educational success through interaction and mentoring of identified at-risk students
  • Other duties as may be devised to assist at-risk students to succeed in the high school setting.
  • Maintain records of daily schedule for audit purposes
Compensation:

According to the negotiated Master Agreement with the Mt. Pleasant Support Personnel Association.
