Job summary

The University of Houston is seeking an Academic Advisor 2 for Social Work to provide comprehensive academic support to a diverse student body within the School of Social Work. You will guide students through degree planning, monitor progress, and handle complex cases to promote student success.

You will collaborate with faculty on student issues, analyze degree audits, identify at-risk students, and develop targeted intervention plans while managing a caseload and tracking outcomes.

Qualifications

• A four-year degree or equivalent specialized training plus at least one year of directly job-related experience.
• Travel to conferences, off-site events, and other campuses as needed, and work occasional weekend events.

Responsibilities

• Advise students on academic planning, degree completion strategies, and academic progress concerns such as probation and retention.
• Analyze degree audits and recommend solutions to students.
• Identify at-risk students and develop intervention plans, while maintaining a caseload and tracking outcomes.
• Collaborate with faculty and departments to resolve student issues.
• Participate in recruitment, advising workshops, and outreach, and possibly recruit high school and community college students and present at special events.
• Process Veteran's Administration paperwork, write graduation verification letters, and provide financial aid appeals.
• Plan and run student engagement activities and provide administrative support to the Office of Student Affairs.
• Travel to conferences, off-site events, and other campuses as needed, and work occasional weekend events.
