The Philadelphia Inquirer is looking for a creative and charismatic journalist to serve as our Social Video Host, Life & Culture. This person will become a leading face of our short-form video content on social media platforms. This role is ideal for a digital storyteller who thrives in front of the camera, understands the power of short-form video, and is passionate about helping people better understand how Inquirer journalism can help them live an informed and fulfilling life in Philadelphia. The person in this position will help our audience live their best life in our region — guided by our work.

As the Social Video Host, Life & Culture, you will create engaging video content primarily for Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and other social media platforms. Your mission is to bring Inquirer stories to audiences in these spaces in a way that resonates with them — whether that’s showcasing the best restaurants, exploring hidden gems everyone should know about, or breaking down trending topics in an approachable, entertaining, relatable, and accessible way.

This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of short-form video at The Inquirer. You’ll be part of a dynamic team that values innovation, storytelling, and connecting with audiences in meaningful ways. If you love journalism, thrive in front of the camera, and want to help people experience the best of our city with the help of Inquirer storytelling — this role is for you. In this role, you will act as a tour guide, showcasing and unpacking Inquirer content and demonstrating for our audience how regularly consuming our work can enhance their lived experience.

What You’ll Do

  • Be a consistent presence as a host/creator behind several key initiatives within our social video landscape, delivering compelling, on-camera storytelling.
  • Shoot, edit, and post 5-10 short-form social videos per week that help people experience the best our region has to offer, including things to do, places to visit, where to eat, and more.
  • Develop one-off video ideas, as well as recurring video series, that align with our newsroom’s coverage and translate stories into engaging, platform-native content.
  • Build trust and credibility with our social audience by becoming a consistent personality within their news consumption habit on multiple platforms.
  • Stay on top of trends in social video and digital storytelling, bringing innovative formats and techniques to our coverage.
  • Work collaboratively with reporters and editors to identify coverage that translates well into social video formats.
  • Engage with our audience through comments, Q&As, and live content to foster a sense of community and accessibility.
  • This role will require flexible hours that will include night and weekend shifts to cover and capture local events and other experiences.

Who We’re Looking For

A journalist with …

  • Experience in video production, content planning and on-camera hosting.
  • A deep and demonstrated understanding of social media storytelling, and what resonates with social audiences, particularly on TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts.
  • A passion for storytelling and high journalistic standards.
  • A knack for breaking down news in a way that is entertaining, engaging and relatable.
  • The ability to shoot and edit video efficiently and on tight deadlines using tools like Adobe Premiere or mobile editing apps.
  • An ability to organize a schedule based on shooting and editing priorities.
  • A finger on the pulse of social trends, digital culture, and digital audience behaviors.
  • A self-starter with a strong personality and creative energy who can work independently while also collaborating with a team.
  • Experience covering lifestyle, entertainment, food, or city culture.
  • Knowledge of SEO (particularly for social platforms), analytics, and audience engagement strategies.
  • A strong working knowledge of how social platforms work and how they’re evolving.
