Job summary

Van Wert County Job & Family Services is seeking a Social Services Worker 2 to manage a complex caseload while working with families to promote child safety. The role involves field interviews, home visits, and collaboration with law enforcement, attorneys, and prosecutors, including occasional court testimony.

The position is full-time or part-time with core hours Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. An on-call component may be required; generous benefits and OPERS retirement are offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in human services-related studies preferred or an associate’s with progress toward bachelor’s.
• Bachelor’s degree in any field plus at least two years in a human services occupation.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Learn & Return student loan repayment program available for Van Wert County natives returning home.

Responsibilities

• Work one-on-one with families to promote child safety.
• Conduct field interviews, gather information, and perform routine home visits.
• Cooperate with law enforcement, attorneys, and prosecutors; provide testimony in court hearings as needed.
• Serve as on-call worker to handle emergencies after hours.

Job Duties

Van Wert County Department of Job and Family Services is seeking a Social Services Worker 2 to work one-on-one with families to promote child safety. This individual should be driven and energetic to manage a complex caseload in a fast-paced environment.

Significant amount of time spent in the field conducting interviews and gathering information and routine home visits. Cooperates with the law enforcement officials, attorneys, and prosecutors. Offers testimony at court hearings/trials periodically.

Serves as on-call worker assigned to handle emergencies after hour.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must have one of the following:

• A bachelor’s degree in human services-related studies, or a minimum of an associate’s degree in a human services-related studies field. Must be working towards completion of bachelor’s degree.
• A bachelor’s degree in any field and have been employed for at least two years in a human services occupation.

In addition, applicant must have valid driver’s license.
