Location: Washington, D.C. / The Alliance Office Reports to: Deputy Director of Marketing Department: Communications Position Type: Full-time
Position Overview
The Alliance for Secure AI is hiring a Social Media Manager to own the organization’s day-to-day social media presence and help shape how The Alliance participates in the national conversation around artificial intelligence.
This person will turn communications priorities, breaking news, policy developments, research, media appearances, events, and campaigns into timely, compelling digital content. The Social Media Manager will manage The Alliance’s primary social channels, identify opportunities to engage in the news cycle, grow our audiences, and help make complex AI issues understandable and relevant to policymakers, journalists, partners, and the public.
This is a hands‑on role for someone with strong writing skills, sharp political and cultural instincts, and a real understanding of how people consume information online. The ideal candidate knows the difference between simply posting content and building a digital presence people actually want to follow.
The Social Media Manager sits within the Communications Department, reports to the Deputy Director of Marketing, and works closely with the Communications Director and the broader communications, policy, and coalition teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Own day‑to‑day management of The Alliance’s social media channels, including X, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, and other relevant platforms.
- Write, schedule, publish, and optimize social content aligned with The Alliance’s communications strategy, policy priorities, campaigns, and brand.
- Monitor the news cycle closely and identify timely opportunities for The Alliance to participate in conversations around AI, technology, national security, civil liberties, the workforce, and public policy.
- Turn breaking news, hearings, legislation, research, media coverage, events, and organizational announcements into timely social content.
- Develop and maintain a forward‑looking content calendar while retaining the flexibility to respond quickly to breaking news and changing priorities.
- Translate complex AI policy and technical issues into clear, compelling content for nontechnical audiences.
- Develop platform‑specific copy, graphics, short‑form video concepts, clips, threads, carousels, and other digital content.
- Work with the Deputy Director of Marketing, Communications Director, Creative Producer, Press Secretary, policy team, and outside partners to identify and develop strong content opportunities.
- Turn media appearances, interviews, speeches, events, hearings, and other Alliance activity into social clips and other reusable digital content.
- Draft social media content and digital messaging for The Alliance leadership.
- Help establish and maintain a distinct, consistent, and recognizable Alliance voice across social platforms.
- Engage strategically with journalists, policymakers, researchers, partner organizations, influencers, and other relevant voices online.
- Monitor comments, mentions, direct messages, and online conversations relevant to The Alliance and flag emerging opportunities or risks.
- Identify creative opportunities to expand The Alliance’s reach beyond its existing audience and make AI safety relevant to broader political and cultural conversations.
- Support digital campaigns around policy priorities, advocacy efforts, research releases, coalition activity, events, and work in priority states.
- Assist with paid social campaigns, including audience targeting, creative testing, campaign execution, and performance analysis.
- Track audience growth, engagement, reach, traffic, conversions, and other relevant metrics.
- Use performance data to improve content, formats, posting strategy, and campaign execution.
- Stay current on platform changes, emerging formats, online trends, and changes in how political and policy audiences consume information.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will bring:
- 2 to 4 years of experience in digital communications, social media, politics, campaigns, advocacy, public affairs, media, marketing, or a related field.
- Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to make complicated subjects clear, concise, and interesting.
- Interest in AI safety, AI security, emerging technology, and the risks and downsides of advanced AI.
- The judgment and independence to represent The Alliance’s mission accurately without requiring constant direction.
- Strong news judgment and an instinct for what is timely, relevant, and worth responding to.
- Demonstrated experience managing social media accounts for an organization, campaign, public figure, brand, or publication.
- A strong understanding of how content should differ across X, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, and other platforms.
- Good political and cultural instincts and an understanding of how conversations develop online.
- The ability to move quickly without sacrificing accuracy or judgment.
- Strong creative instincts and an eye for content that will actually capture attention.
- Basic graphic design and video editing skills using tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, Premiere Pro, or similar platforms.

- Comfort working in a fast‑moving news and policy environment where priorities can change quickly.
- Strong organization and the ability to manage both planned campaigns and rapid‑response content at the same time.
- A willingness to test ideas, learn from performance, and adjust rather than simply repeat what has worked before.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in nonprofit, political campaign, Capitol Hill, public affairs, issue advocacy, media, or agency environments.
- Experience developing social content around politics, public policy, advocacy, technology, or breaking news.
- Familiarity with AI policy, technology policy, national security, civil liberties, workforce issues, or related topics.

- Salary of $70,000-$90,000, commensurate with experience.
- Benefits package.
- Paid time off and holidays.
- Opportunity to shape the future of AI policy at a critical moment.
