We're looking for a Social Media Manager to lead social for Story and for the clients we partner with. This is a strategic, editorial role first: you set the narrative for each channel, plan campaigns end to end, and write the copy that carries them. You'll still be close to the work, but the emphasis is on judgment, taste, and strong writing rather than sheer output. You'll work across LinkedIn, X, Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok, partnering with client teams on their presence while owning how Story itself shows up.
Set social strategy for Story's channels and for assigned client accounts: positioning, voice, channel mix, and what growth actually looks like.
Plan and run campaigns end to end: the idea, the narrative arc, the calendar, the launch, and the read-out afterward.
Write strong copy: posts, threads, captions, and short-form scripts, in a range of brand voices.
Make the editorial calls about what's worth posting and what isn't, and hold that point of view with clients.
Brief and shape work from the design and motion teams rather than producing every asset yourself.
Read performance qualitatively as much as quantitatively: what resonated, what fell flat, and why, and fold that back into the plan.
A track record of running social accounts and campaigns you can walk us through: the thinking, not just the numbers.
Exceptional writing. You can find a brand's voice and move between several of them cleanly.
Strategic and editorial judgment: you lead with the angle and the idea, not the posting cadence.
Comfort working directly with clients: presenting a plan, taking notes, and defending a recommendation.
Fluency across the major platforms and their native formats.
Enough hands-on craft to prototype a post or a cutdown when you need to.
Ability to complete a paid test project as part of the hiring process.
Based in the SF Bay Area or willing to relocate.
Degrees not required.
Strategic and editorial judgment: you lead with the angle and the idea, not the posting cadence.
Fluency across the major platforms and their native formats.
Curiosity about science, technology, and the people building new companies.
A clear point of view and openness to making it stronger through feedback.
