The University of New Mexico's STEM is Child's Play - AI Living Lab seeks a Social Media & Digital Communications Coordinator. This off-campus work-study role pays $18.00 hourly and supports storytelling across social channels, photography, video, and digital content.

You'll document programs, events, and community impact, create content, maintain branding, and engage audiences while collaborating with the Executive Director and program staff. Must have a Work-Study award and be enrolled at UNM.

Qualifications

  • Experience managing social media for nonprofit, school, or community org.
  • Strong photography and video skills.
  • Experience creating short-form video content.
  • Familiarity with Canva, CapCut, Adobe Creative Cloud, or similar tools.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Understanding of social media trends and audience engagement.
  • Creative, dependable, and able to work independently.
  • Interest in STEM, education, science, technology, agriculture, or community development is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the organization's social media across platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and LinkedIn.
  • Create and maintain a monthly social media content calendar.
  • Photograph and record video of programs, workshops, students, events, and community activities.
  • Produce short-form videos, Reels, Stories, and YouTube Shorts.
  • Write engaging captions, educational posts, and promotional content.
  • Promote upcoming classes, workshops, events, water-testing services, STEM programs, and community activities.
  • Develop content that demonstrates impact and tells stories about students and the community.
  • Maintain consistent branding and messaging across social media platforms.
  • Monitor comments, messages, and community engagement.
  • Identify opportunities to increase audience reach and participation.
  • Track basic social media analytics and report on engagement, reach, follower growth, and content performance.
  • Assist with promotion of media appearances, news coverage, grants, partnerships, and special events.
  • Maintain an organized digital library of photographs and video.
  • Obtain appropriate permissions/releases before publishing identifiable images or video of children and program participants.
  • Work with the Executive Director and program staff to identify stories and activities to promote.
  • Assist with flyers, digital advertisements, newsletters, and other promotional materials as needed.

Position Summary

The Social Media & DigitalCommunications Coordinator is responsible for telling the story of STEM isChild’s Play and the AI Living Lab through social media, photography, video,digital content, and community engagement. This position will document theorganization's programs, students, experiments, hydroponics, aquaponics,water-testing laboratory, events, and community impact.

This is a hands-on position. Thesuccessful candidate must be able to create content—not simply schedule posts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the organization's social media presence acrossplatforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and LinkedIn.

Enrolled in a degree seeking program at UNM, Enrolled at least half-time (6 hours) at UNM for fall and spring semesters (Audit hours do not count), and if Work Study, you must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience managing social media for a nonprofit,school, business, community organization, or similar organization.
  • Strong photography and video skills.
  • Experience creating short-form video content.
  • Familiarity with Canva, CapCut, Adobe Creative Cloud,or comparable content-creation tools.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.

Performance Expectations

The coordinator should consistently produce original, high-quality content andmaintain an active online presence. Success will be measured by consistency ofposting, quality of content, audience engagement, reach, follower growth, eventpromotion, and the organization's overall digital visibility.
