A leading marketing agency in Durham is seeking a part-time Social Media Contractor. This role involves capturing engaging social media content during events and within businesses, contributing to the agency's goal of enhancing awareness of Durham as a tourism destination. Social Media Contractor
Discover Durham is Durham, North Carolina’s marketing and sales agency, generating economic impact by drawing 13+ million leisure, business, and sports visitors to our vibrant community.
We’re looking for a part-time Social Media Contractor to assist our team with attending Durham-based events and going to businesses and attractions in Durham to capture and create social media content. The content will contribute or be repurposed for Discover Durham’s social accounts ultimately increasing awareness of Durham as an appealing visitor destination.
This job requires strong attention to detail, the ability to film and edit engaging social media content, and prior experience capturing cell phone photos and videos. This role will be managed by the Social Media Manager. Hours will vary week to week and month to month, but are anticipated to be approximately 10-15 hours per month paid at $20/ hour. Expensed travel and other related costs are required to be pre-approved.
Anticipated contract dates: July – December, 2025.
This is a remote position and does not require coming into the office, though will require regularly capturing footage within Durham County. Contractor must be able to provide their own form of transportation.
Primary Responsibilities
Capture content to be published on Discover Durham’s accounts:
Attend Durham-based events that drive visitation and economic development (includes evenings and weekends)
Go to businesses and attractions within Durham County as determined by the Marketing team’s editorial calendar
Curate user-generated content and other publicly available assets to contribute to or be repurposed for Discover Durham’s social posts
Produce a bank of b-roll and other multimedia elements of top visitor-facing attractions to be used for social media posts across accounts
Depending on the contractor’s skillsets, design social media graphics or animations
Depending on the contractor’s skillsets, lead and capture interviews small business owners, event goers, etc. to provide sound bites or testimonials and third-party validation in content pieces as warranted.
Skills and Qualifications
Must be available to work evenings and weekends .
Must have a personal computer and internet to access Discover Durham’s software and subscription platforms.
Experience creating content for a brand social media account.
Experience covering events or other live initiatives for a branded account.
A familiarity or understanding of the Durham and what sets it apart is preferred.
Candidates are required to submit links to at least three social posts they have independently created, demonstrating high quality of work and creativity.
