Job summary

The University of Kansas is seeking a student for a communications-support role to create content for social media and other channels. You will produce video, photography and written pieces, conduct interviews, and help tell ecological research stories.

This role offers mentorship, portfolio-building opportunities and flexible hours (4–8 per week), on-campus in West Campus offices, with travel to field sites and events as needed.

Qualifications

• Strong reporting and writing skills.
• Ability to work independently.
• Experience with Microsoft Office 365 programs.
• Availability to work four to eight hours per week during Fall 2026.
• Willingness to travel to local locations for shoots and events.

Responsibilities

• Create content for Kansas Biological Survey social media platforms through video, photography, graphics and written content.
• Identify and pitch content opportunities related to research, fieldwork, events and organizational priorities.
• Assist with content planning, scheduling and audience engagement.
• Interview researchers, students and staff to gather information for communications projects.
• Support the Communications Coordinator with reporting, writing, editing and other science communication projects.
