Job summary

The University of Utah’s UIT Systems & Security unit seeks a Cybersecurity Analyst Tier 1 (Security Operations Center) to monitor real-time security events, perform initial triage, and rapidly contain threats using established playbooks. You will work under mentorship from Tier-2 and Tier-3 analysts to advance incident response and threat detection skills.

Qualifications

• Experience in IT security operations and incident response.
• Knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, OSI model).
• Familiarity with common attack vectors (phishing, malware, web attacks).

Responsibilities

• Perform initial triage, scoping, and evaluation of security alerts across endpoint, network, cloud, and identity domains.
• Execute incident response playbooks for containment and remediation of low-to-medium complexity security alerts.
• Escalate high-severity incidents to Tier-2 with clear initial investigation notes.
• Document incident details, triage steps, and remediation actions in ticketing systems.
