Job summary

Phoenix Houses of California in Irvine, CA seeks a Sobering Medical Assistant to provide non-clinical support, promote a trauma-informed environment, and assist clients with basic needs and safe transitions to subsequent services. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to facilitate referrals and warm handoffs.

The role requires 6 months of related experience and a Medical Assistant training program, with weekend coverage and evening shifts.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completed Medical Assistant training program and documentation.
• Six months of healthcare/behavioral health experience preferred.
• TB test clearance updated yearly.

Responsibilities

• Welcome clients and provide orientation to the Sobering Center in a respectful and professional manner.
• Establish positive, supportive relationships with clients while maintaining professional boundaries.
• Provide non-clinical emotional and practical support to clients during their stay.
• Support clients in identifying appropriate next steps following their Sobering Center stay.
• Conduct and document client observations at least every 15 minutes, or more frequently as required.
• Observe and document client presentation, responsiveness, behavior, location, and changes in condition.
• Ensure observations are completed on time and accurately documented.
• Communicate significant changes to supervisors or clinical staff.
• Follow procedures for medical/behavioral emergencies.
• Assist with showers, laundry, and program amenities.
• Assist with transportation or discharge arrangements.
• Use de-escalation techniques for challenging behaviors.
• Complete incident documentation and ensure compliance with policies.
