Job summary

Cognizant is seeking an Automation / Orchestration / Security Engineer in Sacramento to design, build, and maintain security automation across SIEM, EDR/XDR, IAM, and cloud security tools, driving faster response and reducing manual effort.

You will develop reusable automation components, integrate with REST APIs, ensure RBAC and audit logging, and support incident response while aligning with governance and change management.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in Automation Engineering or related roles.
• Strong programming in Python, PowerShell or JavaScript.
• Experience with automation/orchestration platforms such as Ansible, Itential, VMware Aria Orchestrator.
• Hands-on with REST APIs, JSON, webhooks, OAuth2, token-based authentication, and mutual TLS.
• Knowledge of SIEM concepts, IAM, cloud security, and incident response.
• Experience with ITSM tools like ServiceNow and Jira.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver security automation to improve response times.
• Develop and maintain SOAR playbooks for alert triage, enrichment, containment, remediation, and response workflows.
• Build integrations with SIEM, EDR/XDR, IAM, vulnerability management, ticketing platforms, and cloud security solutions.
• Create reusable automation components with logging, monitoring, and error handling.
• Collaborate with SOC/IR to automate procedures and runbooks with approvals where needed.
• Implement RBAC, change management, audit logging, and documentation.
• Automate security controls and policy-as-code with infrastructure/engineering teams.
• Support incident response with automation for evidence collection and containment.
• Ensure secure coding practices and prevent misuse of automation workflows.
• Document operating procedures, runbooks, and knowledge transfer materials.
