Job description

A cutting-edge advanced technology organisation operating within the nuclear and chemical processing sector is seeking a Senior Director of Engineering & Chief Engineer to lead engineering execution for a first-of-a-kind industrial facility.

This is a highly visible leadership role responsible for driving engineering delivery across complex, multidisciplinary systems while acting as the technical authority during plant buildout, integration, commissioning, and startup activities.

The successful individual will bridge R&D, engineering, construction, operations, and regulatory functions to ensure innovative technologies are translated into safe, reliable, and scalable industrial systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead engineering execution across design, procurement support, construction support, commissioning, and startup activities.
  • Translate major project milestones into executable engineering delivery plans, resource strategies, and discipline-level priorities.
  • Manage multidisciplinary engineering activities across mechanical, process, systems, nuclear, I&C, structural, reliability, and safety engineering functions.
  • Serve as the senior technical authority during plant buildout, system integration, commissioning, and operational readiness activities.
  • Lead resolution of complex technical challenges impacting integration, operability, reliability, and startup schedules.
  • Drive engineering standards, design quality, documentation control, and change management processes.
  • Support the integration of advanced hardware technologies into a regulated industrial processing environment.
  • Partner with Quality, Regulatory, Operations, and Project teams to support safety analyses, design verification, commissioning protocols, and operational readiness.
  • Lead troubleshooting and root cause investigations during commissioning and early operations.
  • Build and coordinate cross-functional technical teams to solve high-priority engineering and operational issues.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Mechanical, Chemical, Nuclear, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 15+ years of experience delivering complex industrial, manufacturing, energy, nuclear, chemical processing, or high-tech engineering projects.
  • Strong experience supporting plant design, facility buildout, commissioning, startup, and operational readiness activities.
  • Proven ability to lead through ambiguity and solve technically complex, first-of-a-kind engineering challenges.
  • Strong understanding of systems integration, reliability engineering, failure analysis, and industrial operations.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams within highly regulated environments.
Preferred Experience
  • Nuclear, radiopharma, chemical processing, energy, semiconductor, aerospace, or other advanced industrial sectors.
  • Previous experience as a Chief Engineer, Technical Authority, Systems Engineering Lead, or Engineering Director.
  • Familiarity with hazard analysis methodologies such as HAZOP, FMEA, and safety review processes.

This is a rare opportunity to play a leading role in the delivery of groundbreaking industrial and nuclear technologies with significant long-term impact and growth potential.
