Job description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Instrumentation & Control (I&C) Systems Engineer to design and deliver the digital control systems that operate and protect next-generation nuclear reactors.

In this role, you will help develop the control logic, instrumentation, safety systems, and automation technology used across advanced light-water, liquid-metal, and high-temperature gas reactors. You will guide engineering design, collaborate across disciplines, and ensure all systems meet the highest regulatory, safety, and performance standards.

This position offers the opportunity to work on innovative clean energy technology and contribute directly to the future of advanced nuclear.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop I&C systems for safety-related and non-safety reactor systems
  • Build control logic, system algorithms, setpoints, and control models
  • Prepare engineering documentation, including requirements, specifications, diagrams, and equipment lists
  • Support and lead project phases from FEED through conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design
  • Develop system diagrams such as functional block diagrams, ladder logic, digital logic, interconnection wiring, and networking schematics
  • Conduct simulation and modeling work using physics-based and logic-based tools
  • Select and integrate hardware and software platforms for safety-class and non-safety-class systems
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, nuclear, and systems engineers to meet performance and reliability objectives
  • Support procurement packages and provide technical oversight to suppliers
  • Lead and participate in system testing, including unit testing, integration testing, and factory acceptance testing (FAT)
  • Work with modern DCS platforms, particularly GE Vernova Mark VIe / ControlST
  • Ensure compliance with nuclear licensing, regulatory requirements, and quality standards
  • Promote a strong nuclear safety culture and mentor junior engineers
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Nuclear, Computer, Systems Engineering, or a related STEM field
  • 10+ years of engineering experience in nuclear, power generation, oil & gas, aerospace, marine, industrial automation, or similar industries
  • 10+ years designing or supporting I&C or control systems
  • Hands-on experience with DCS or PLC platforms (GE Mark VIe strongly preferred)
  • Strong experience producing technical documentation, engineering drawings, and system diagrams
  • Knowledge of IEC 60xxx / 61xxx / 62xxx standards
  • Experience in developing control logic, setpoints, and algorithms
  • Experience supporting FAT, commissioning, or supplier oversight efforts
  • Proficiency with engineering tools such as Visio, AutoCAD, Excel, Project, and simulation platforms (MATLAB/Simulink, Mathcad, Easy5)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in the U.S. or Canada
  • PMP or MBA
  • Experience with nuclear regulatory processes, including licensing and design certification
  • Experience with advanced reactor designs (ALWR, ALMR, AHTGR)
  • Experience with FMEA, PRA, or reliability tools such as Reliasoft
  • Familiarity with digital engineering tools such as IBM ELM, Confluence, or ENOVIA
Ideal Candidate Profile
  • Experienced in safety-class reactor or industrial control system design
  • Strong systems thinker with the ability to translate complex requirements into engineered solutions
  • Clear, concise communicator capable of working across engineering disciplines
  • Self-starter with strong ownership and project leadership abilities
  • Committed to quality, safety culture, and rigorous engineering discipline
Why Join Us
  • Work with a team leading the development of advanced nuclear technologies
  • Contribute to innovative, clean, and carbon-free energy solutions
  • Opportunities for professional growth in high-reliability, safety-critical engineering
  • Engage in technically challenging and meaningful work that has a global impact
