Job summary

Stratton Mountain Resort is seeking a Snow Reporter for a seasonal role with both full-time and part-time opportunities. The position crafts daily snow reports, stories, and content across video, web, social media, email, and phone, and pays $20.00/hour.

Recruitment for this role is ongoing through December; the role begins early mornings at 5:30AM and requires strong communication, writing skills, and a love for mountain life.

Qualifications

• Writing sample required.
• Must work outside in all weather conditions.
• Advanced level skier/snowboarder.
• Creative, well organized, and a team player with energy.
• Must multi-task and meet deadlines.
• Knowledge of video editing software & social media.

• Previous snow sports industry experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Write and announce a daily snow report for ski reporting services.
• Coordinate with Mountain Operations, Information Desk, Marketing and Events to update conditions.
• Update Stratton.com and other sites as conditions change.
• Maintain internal communications of day’s conditions.
• Monitor weather changes and report to reporting services.
• Conduct resort surveys to compare reporting information.
• Analyze Grooming statistics throughout the season.
• Create on-snow content and Stratton Blog posts.
• Produce written and/or filmed features for Stratton audience.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Snow Reporter is responsible for sharing information both internally and externally, with guests and employees, through various channels such as video, web, social media, email and phone. The Snow Reporter will be creating content, storytelling, and reporting on resort news from mountain conditions to resort events, behind-the-scenes action to personality profiles, all the things on and off the snow. This is a seasonal role with full time and part-time opportunities, compensated at $20.00/hour.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Write and announce a daily snow report for a variety of ski reporting services
• Confer regularly with Mountain Operations, Information Desk, Marketing and Events, in order to compile, update and disseminate mountain condition information
• Update several websites, including Stratton.com as the day’s conditions unfold
• Maintain and update internal communication of day’s conditions
• Assess/monitor mountain weather conditions for changes and follows up with reporting services
• Conduct competitive resort surveys, in order to compare and assess other resort reporting information
• Process and analyze daily Grooming statistics throughout the entire season
• Smile, have fun, ski or snowboard on a daily basis and be the “Voice of Stratton”
• Assist other departments as needed
• Storyboard, film and produce on the snow content for Stratton audience
• Create written content for the Stratton Blog
• Special projects as assigned (film and/or written)
• Additional duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS

• Excellent communication skills in both public speaking and writing. Note that a writing sample is required.
• Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions
• Advanced level skier/snowboarder
• Must be a creative, well organized, team player with a high degree of energy
• Must be able to multi-task and work well under pressure
• Working knowledge of video editing software & social media
• Must be able to work efficiently to meet deadlines
• Must work well independently and as a member of a team
• Be a morning person! This job begins at 5:30AM each day.
• High School Diploma, or equivalent, required
• Previous experience working in snow sports industry, preferred

This position may be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
