Job summary

City of Canton is hiring Snow Removal personnel as needed to clear streets and parking areas, including plowing, sanding, loading trucks, hauling snow, and shoveling sidewalks.

You'll operate equipment such as motor grader, pay loader, dump truck and snow plow, perform maintenance, and follow safety protocols. Starting wage is $25.00 per hour.

Must have knowledge of occupational hazards, basic mechanical ability, ability to read directions and maps, and work well in teams in varying weather.

Qualifications

• General knowledge of hazards in streets and street repair.
• General mechanical ability and knowledge of tools.
• Knowledge of safe operation of trucks, loaders and snow equipment.
• Ability to read directions, plans and maps; work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

• Perform snow and ice removal: plow, sand, load, haul, shovel sidewalks.
• Ensure tools and PPE are used safely; request repairs when needed.
• Operate equipment: motor grader, pay loader, dump truck, snow plow.

• Perform snow and ice removal procedures: plow, sand, load trucks, haul snow, shovel sidewalks
• Ensure tools and equipment are used safely; personal protective equipment is used properly; initiate
  requests for repair or replacement of tools and equipment when necessary
• Operate equipment, including motor grader, pay loader, dump truck and snow plow
• Assist with maintenance, cleaning and repair of City vehicles, equipment, facilities, streets and parks
• Perform other duties, projects and tasks as may be required by the Water/Wastewater Superintendent and/or
  to assure the success of department operations and services

Should have have general knowledge of occupational hazards connected with streets and street repair, heavy equipment, digging, trenching, etc.

• Should have general mechanical ability and knowledge of tools and methods used within the department
• Should have knowledge of correct operation of trucks, tractors, loaders, sweepers and other power equipment
• Should have good interpersonal skills, with the ability to adapt to various situations and people
• Should be able to read directions, plans and maps; be able to calculate amounts and measurements
• Should be able to work independently, as well as in a team environment

Physical Capabilities

• Wide variety of physical activity required: may include extended periods of strenuous activity, including heavy manual labor, lifting up to 75 pounds, digging, carrying, climbing, stooping, reaching, pulling, crawling through narrow accesses, and withstanding exposure to variable weather conditions
• Must have the ability to operate a variety of heavy equipment, including trucks, snow equipment, loaders, backhoes and sweepers
• Must have the ability to work inside and outside activities in all types of weather; daytime and nighttime hours may be required
