Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience with public benefits or social services is a plus.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and communities.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct outreach to community organizations and programs.
  • Educate individuals about SNAP eligibility and benefits.
  • Assist clients with SNAP applications and required documentation.
  • Provide application support using online tools like Access HRA.
  • Assist with recertifications, updates, and follow-ups.
  • Advocate for clients in complex cases when needed.
  • Maintain accurate case notes in internal databases.
  • Collaborate with partner organizations and internal teams.
  • Attend outreach events, some evenings or weekends mandated.
  • Connect clients to Fair Fares, HEAP, WIC, and other services.

Location: Brooklyn, NY
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Schedule: Full-Time (40 hours/week)
Work Arrangement: Hybrid – 4 days onsite, 1 day remote
Primary Locations: Boro Park (Brooklyn) and Financial District (Manhattan)

Position Summary

The SNAP Specialist will conduct outreach and provide enrollment assistance for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to underserved communities in Brooklyn. This role focuses on educating individuals and families, guiding them through the application process, and ensuring access to vital public benefits.

The ideal candidate is community-oriented, detail-driven, and comfortable working directly with clients from diverse backgrounds.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct outreach to community-based organizations, food programs, and partner agencies
  • Educate individuals and families about SNAP eligibility and benefits
  • Screen, counsel, and assist clients with SNAP applications and required documentation
  • Provide application support using online tools such as Access HRA
  • Assist clients with recertifications, case updates, and follow-up needs
  • Advocate on behalf of clients for disputed or complex cases when needed
  • Maintain accurate documentation and case notes in internal databases
  • Collaborate with partner organizations and internal teams
  • Attend outreach events, fairs, and community programs (some evenings or weekends may be required)
  • Connect clients to additional resources such as Fair Fares, healthcare programs, HEAP, WIC, tax assistance, and other social services
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Background in Public Health, Human Services, or Public Administration preferred
  • Prior experience working with the Orthodox Jewish community required
  • Additional language skills (Spanish or Russian) strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of government benefit programs a plus
Additional Requirements
  • Willingness to travel throughout New York City as needed
  • Primary work locations in Brooklyn and Manhattan
  • Flexibility for occasional non-traditional work hours

Hourly Rate: $21.63
